Michigan declares right to regulate sexual relationships!

You may have noticed how I like to point out the now malignant authoritarian nature of the Republican Party. Their amazing resurgence after tanking the global economy may have been the miracle people were looking for to prove God exists. Or the devil, in this case.

If the midterms fail to bounce these political right wing authoritarians from office, we're in big trouble.

At the forefront of this authoritarian movement, is the state of Michigan, and Republican Governor Snyder's breathtaking replacement of locally elected officials with "Emergency Managers."

Now comes word that the "state" has a right to "regulate sexual relationships between men and women." I know, you didn't think they'd be this stridently arrogant with their majority power:
Addicting Info: On September 9, 2013 Attorneys for the state of Michigan filed paperwork in District Court asserting the state’s right to “regulate sexual relationships.” The court filing is in response to a civil action filed earlier this by Plaintiff Deboer. Deboer filed a suit against the state’s unconstitutional same sex marriage ban, which denies same sex couples the right to marry or to adopt children. In the state’s response, filed on behalf of Governor Rick Snyder, the Michigan attorney general claims:
One of the paramount purposes of marriage in Michigan — and at least 37 other states that define marriage as a union between a man and a woman — is, and has always been, to regulate sexual relationships between men and women so that the unique procreative capacity of such relationships benefits rather than harms society.”
Far from being a casual statement made off the cuff, this is a statement that has been carefully crafted by the state’s attorneys, and undoubtedly reflects the position held by Snyder administration.
And if we know Republicans, and we do, this will be copied nationwide:
Could the state also move to ban sex for any reason other than procreation?
Virginia GOP candidate and AG Ken Cuccinelli still backs the new and unconstitutional anti-sodomy law, which basically makes oral sex illegal, for anyone single or married.

  1. Yes, please outlaw sex. Breaking the law will just add to the pleasure. And while they are at it, outlaw "dirty" books as well. I miss the days when the banned titles were at the top of everyone's "must read" list and reading a book was an act of subversion against the Puritans.

Is this the last hurrah of the Christian holy warriors?

  2. What's so innately "beneficial" to society about procreation? Sure, it's wonderful to raise a family, but that's personal. Producing more offspring increases the population, which certainly provides more workers and increases the size of the economy, but it also produces a burden on the environment. Ask the ZPG folks why having kids, or at least too many of them, is not entirely without its negatives. We're on course to reach 12 billion people on this planet, and we've already mucked up the Earth pretty badly with half that number.

Oh, and by the way, dear Michigan governor, gay couples can certainly bear their own children (yeah, there are a couple of ways), and they can also adopt kids, which would be a "beneficial" alternative for more hetero couples, too.
