Guess who wrote the mining bill and didn’t get their way? Gogebic Taconite Tantrum Should tell you Something.

Guess who wrote the mining bill and didn't get their way?
jsonline: The state Senate rejected mining legislation on Tuesday, prompting Gogebic Taconite-a prominent mining company-to say it was abandoning a project. "Senate rejection of the mining reforms . . . sends a clear message that Wisconsin will not welcome iron mining. We get the message," said a statement from Bill Williams, president of Gogebic Taconite LLC. "(We are) ending plans to invest in a Wisconsin mine."
Dig your way to hell, Gogebic, in some other state, and take your poorly written legislation with you.
Bob Seitz, a lobbyist representing Gogebic, said: "This isn't an attempt to negotiate anything because that's done." He said that the company made numerous concessions, and wasn't willing to go any further.
Gogebic “wasn’t willing to go any further?” Aw, poor babies. They wrote the bill for the assembly, that much is clear, and the promise of Republican passage had them salivating all over themselves. Oops, the people of Wisconsin got in their way.

Guess the summer recalls weren’t such a failure after all, right Charlie Sykes and Vicki McKenna?

Hats off to Sen. Dale Schultz and Bob Jauch for looking out for the state, despite Schultz’s lousy votes on other partisan issues.

But Republicans "don’t need no" mining company. They’re going to try and ram something through anyway, just because they’re the playground bullies.
Gogebic, headquartered in Hurley and owned by a Florida-based company, put its plan on hold during the middle of last year after concluding Wisconsin needed to make changes in the way iron ore mines are regulated. "What we're asking for is make a decision, be it yes or be it no," he said.
But what if issues connected to mining ore weren’t as easy as yes or no? A “maybe” could go either way. That  wasn’t good enough, that didn't provide the "certainty" we normally see in the free market? Guess the following outrageous Republican concession was too much for some legislators to take:
Exemptions for compliance from various regulations that govern groundwater, surface water and management of waste.

  1. Your a dirt bag that helped kill thousands of jobs for the next 200 yrs plus! Why... To get back at scott walker. You same people that preach about the environment have no problem with dumping billions of gallons of poop into lake Michigan every single summer. Where else do we get raw materials from? What makes Wisconsin any different from anywhere else on earth? Maybe we could shuttle ore in from Mars!..oh wait that programs gone too! Your idealogical theories are not about sharing and caring its about socialistic power and control over human beings. Hitler tried the same crap! Your time is up people this job killing bill you shot down is the tipping point for you in WI!!!!

  3. Funny, I seem to remember one Republican senator, not Democratic, who actually stopped this bill from being passed, and rightfully so.

You know, some conservatives still care about what this state will look like for our kids, safe drinking water, tourism...if you're so worried about leaving our kids with large deficits, why not include the great outdoors?

What is sad about conservative Walker thugs like you, is that your current state of panic has driven you to bow to your authoritarian "leaders" and mimic your corporate bosses. They say they're the job creators, but only until the Great Recession, did they create jobs without blathering on about "certainty." Free markets don't have ANY certainty. Think about it.

Milwaukee's sewage problem may have something to do with the size of the problem, and nothing to do with ALL permits forward under an incredibly destruction piece of legislation written by the industry. But you don't care because you have so many cliche's to get out of your system here in the comments section.

  4. The only union jobs the democrats care about are the public sector ones this mine would have created union jobs all over the state in construction, manufacturing, sales , shipping , trucking the list goes on its also going to bring stability to a region of our state that is desperate for jobs so get with the program and stop the retaliation towards walker an for once in your miserable life do what's right for the state there will be no future for our kids if the people here now can't find jobs

  5. Funny... Haha I seem to remember the same sell out dale Schultz. This bill was only designed to speed up the permit process in the DNR. Not by-pass envoirentmental control. This wasn't a sure thing anyway. How do democrats plan to run a campaign based on job creation when they ust destroyed the possibilty of creating thousands more . What's the famous democrat cliche in WI... "Where are the jobs Scott Walker.. Where are all the jobs you promised ?". They were just tossed out because people still believe mining company's still practice 200 yr old techniques. You actually think the DNR or EPA would allow this?

  6. The problem with the conservative comments here is that they're based on "projection." Democrats, liberals and progressives don't naturally think like you. We're not out to ruin Walker, mining, or anything else for vengeful reasons. Despite the fact the tribe in that area would have probably stopped the mine, you are quick to blame the Democrats again, when it was both Democrats and one Republican who hasn't sold out yet to corporate thieves.

Remember, they didn't want to be accountable to any of the rules governing ground water, surface water and the management of waste. Who cares right?

One Question; do you think we know more about the effects of mining than we did 200 years ago? I know, progress confuses you.

  7. Maybe we could all go on welfare or become public employees in WI. I know...then raise taxes. Private business is evil! Send them packing! It would go great with our public insurance program coming up!

  8. Okay seriously people get a grip. This is why I feel even having a comment section is a bad idea. But here are some facts for you . . .

This bill would legalize the following:
-Filling lakes to create beaches or docking facilities
-Piling waste rock and mine tailings in wetlands, along streams and next to lakes

So basically it's legal to pollute our state and not clean it up or be responsible for your actions. Guess what . . . that's not okay.

And you know what else? Grow up and stop calling people names.

  9. At the Mellen town hearing see learned none of the republican senators besides Schultz ever came up here to speak to people or view the area.

When they pile tons of waste in the rivers and streams and poison the air and water how many tourist jobs will be lost?

  10. What's a good alternative for iron ore? We surely can't make everything out of plastic or wood. It would be nice to recycle a lot of steel but it can't be done at the rate we use it. No one is going to invest in a company if money can't be made. People are not going mine just on survival alone.
