Republicans vote to remove voter registration in High Schools. Can they be more obvious?

Anyone still wondering whether the Republican Party wants to limit the number of people who vote?
jsonline: The Wisconsin state Assembly is scheduled to vote on a bill that would remove a requirement in state law that voter registration be offered to students in high school. The measure passed on a party line vote in the Senate last month. The Republican-controlled Assembly was to take it up Tuesday.

Democrats argued the bill is an assault on voting rights and part of a broader Republican agenda to suppress voting among people who are more likely to support Democrats.
No, really? Don’t forget, this is only the beginning of a potentially long list of steps to justify instituting road blocks to vote. Ann Coulter is part of a group of conservatives who think the voting age should be raised because college students aren’t smart enough yet. Some would like a way to determine if people know the issues and candidates positions before they're allowed to vote. Some would like
stricter time limits for voting, or private computerized machines with no public accountability.
Republicans say high school students have many other options for registering and it's a burden for elections officials to offer it at the schools.
You get that? It's a "burden" for the peoples government to help those same people vote? These are only a few of the many potential ideas floated by Republicans to attack voter participation.

  1. Thanks for posting this. Hadn't heard it reported elsewhere.

Can't help being struck by the irony. If the state's compelling interest in its young people growing up to be educated citizens provides the basis for our public education system, why wouldn't you keep voter registration available in public schools?

Oh, I forgot. These Wisconsin Republicans don't believe in public schools anymore, either.
