The recall elections in Wisconsin has a lot to do with the Republicans pent up anger over teachers and their union. It's as if the union plays an active role in the classroom and a teachers ability to teach.
But the far right wing talking points are opportunistic myths. During good times, when the economy is healthy, wages and benefits present no big deal. Sure there might be a disagreements during district negotiations, but that's life. During a Great Recession though, it's easy to make what is normal seem unfair and expensive. So every bogey man created by Republicans about teachers and their unions springs to life in a long list of untrue talking points.
Here, Matt Damon easily defends teachers from an onslaught of silly but generally excepted conservative talking points about firing bad teachers. This video has made the rounds but in two pieces, so I've joined them together.
