If you've noticed, I'm into reforming our health care into a single pay system. I've explained the inherent problems with health savings accounts, or HSA's.
Long story short, the HSA's get you in with low monthly premiums ($500) and about a $5,000 deductible for a family plan. But every year the plans premiums go up about $1400, along with a tease to lower it slightly by increasing the deductible a lot. I ended up with $650 a month and a $10,000 deductible. Still a good idea? After a few years your premiums will be over $1000 a month with an extremely high deductible. That doesn't even take into consideration the self rationing aspect and the out of pocket costs. Who's going to see the doctor when you have to spend $10,000 out of pocket first?
So now, we have more proof this Republican idea is a failure...
STUDY: HIGH DEDUCTIBLE HEALTH CARE PLANS DON’T SAVE MONEY: Yet another study has tested the GOP’s argument that we can reduce health care spending by giving people more “skin in the game” and giving everyone the option of a high deductible health care plan. Turns out that doesn’t actually save any money. “Overall, introduction of HDHP had no impact on health-care costs, positive impact on the number of outpatient visits and mixed impacts on the inpatient and emergency room visit counts.”
