Republican Projection Envisions Two more Big Problems; Bribes for Signatures and Multiple Signing.

Okay, so someone somewhere said they signed over 60 petitions. Where’s the proof? Who are they? 

Why haven’t they stepped forward to deny or admit what they did? Is this just a fiction? Is it just one more story blown out of proportion, as usual, by the far right to fire up their base? Or was it a recall supporter reacting to the right wingers threats to shred phony petitions, creating a need to sign more than one?

Never once did a Republican lawmaker connect the dots between Walker supporters threats, and petition signers who’s only option was to make their signature count. And not once did Walker, the Fitzgeralds, Vos or Grothman demand the threats and petition thuggery, end. Not once. They simply denied they had anything to do with it. And that felt right for conservative voters, who felt empowered.

 

So now we’re about to see two new laws to fight…their own demons apparently, because we haven’t seen a problem yet. They're still acting like no one ever threatened to shred petitions, forcing some to sign more than once:

Cap Times: A group of Republican lawmakers wants to make it a felony to induce someone to sign a recall petition by offering anything of value in exchange for a signature.

Assembly Bill 472, authored by Rep. Evan Wynn, R-Whitewater, was introduced with 21 GOP co-sponsors in the Assembly and Senate. It would make the penalty for inducing someone to sign a petition the same as the penalty for inducing a person to vote or refrain from casting a vote.

Another bill, introduced last week, would make it a misdemeanor to sign a recall petition more than once. "Mind-boggling is the only word to describe this legalized bribery," he writes.

Only in their own sick minds. But Wisconsin Democratic spokesman Graeme Zielinski calls the proposals "more sour grapes."

"They're trying to feed a narrative favorable to Scott Walker supporters that this recall lacks some legitimacy even though it enjoys widespread support," he says. "I'd like for them to answer how this would be enforced, how it wouldn't lead to entrapment situations, how it wouldn't lead to all sorts of mischief."
