jsonline: Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. said Tuesday he won't make most changes sought by County Executive Chris Abele through proposed cuts to Clarke's 2012 budget. Clarke said he won't eliminate the boot camp-style inmate program Abele's budget calls ineffective; he won't stop patrolling parks and the lakefront with deputies; he can't substitute hourly help for full-time deputies to serve some legal papers; and he won't fold his community relations division that includes deputy protection for visiting presidential candidates … a move that could pit the sheriff's constitutional authority for law enforcement with Abele's and the County Board's power of the purse.
Even with the cut, the sheriff's budget remains the largest recipient of property tax revenue in Abele's budget.
"This budget sets me up to fail. It was insulting, discourteous, unprofessional," Clarke said … the sheriff walked out of the Sept. 27 meeting on his budget, which made serious discussion impossible.
Oh, and how about a little childish name calling…
Clarke called Abele a soft-on-crime liberal who favors a therapeutic approach to crime over discipline. At one point in the interview, Clarke said there was no room for compromise on Abele's cuts.
Let's see- one republican walks out of one meeting, and he's horrible and juvenile, right?? OH HOW QUICKLY THEY FORGET!!!! I seem to remember a few Democratic senators who left for WEEKS!!! Do as I say, not as I do, RIGHT??!?!?!?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteClarke walked out when he could have made a difference on the cuts. Cuts that were not being rushed through in a few days. Am I wrong?
ReplyDeleteThe Democrats did not have that option, they were being bulldozed, and had only a few days for major legislative changes you and the public knew little about. Unless you like ramming bills down the public's throats that haven't been debated? Remember the Affordable Care Act?
Oh, I forgot, you're a hypocrite.
