Be careful when a Republican says their plan will leave everything in better financial shape. The books might appear balanced, though not likely, but at the expense of what groups basic needs and benefits. Veterans it turns out are in Walker's sights:
Wispolitics: Veterans Affairs Secretary Ken Black writes in a letter to Walker that his two-year budget proposal "does not reflect Wisconsin’s commitment to provide the benefits and services our veterans need and deserve." The governor's office responded that the recently signed budget repair bill would put both the trust fund and veterans homes in a better financial position.Warning!!! In “better financial position” really?
According to Black, the budget proposal would continue the structural deficit in the Veterans Trust Fund, cut veterans assistance programs, divert revenue from state veterans homes, end the veterans homes' bed tax exemption and recommend outside contracting to staff the new veterans home in Chippewa Falls.
