Another Reason to Hate Canada

As Republican lawmakers in the U.S. criticize everything Canadian, like their $14 billion budget surplus for 2007, or their universal health care system forcing millions of their citizens over the border to get large American doctor bills, now we find out they are paying less for food.

The CBC reports: "Canadian consumers have been protected at the supermarket checkout from surging food prices over the past year..Consumer prices for food rose a modest 1.2 per cent from April 2007 to April 2008. By comparison, grocery prices in the European Union and the United States have increased 7.1 per cent and 5.9 per cent respectively. Prices in China have increased 22 per cent."

"The absence of price increases for these other food products reflects factors such as the lower cost of food imports in the wake of the rising Canadian dollar, and the relatively small role that commodities play in what consumers buy," the federal agency said."

One of these days, Canada. Mark my words, one of these days…!
