And when they whine and complain about high taxes, they
conveniently leave out Dane County, a liberal bastion that pays the highest
property tax in the state. According to Cap Times reporter Mike Ivey:
The most liberal county in Wisconsin is also its most heavily taxed.
When Republicans whine about Democratically proposed tax
increases, guess who ends up paying the most…Democrats.
Dane County had the highest property tax bills in the state for 2011-12 year, with the average homeowner here paying $4,811, according to new figures from the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance. In the county, property taxes have now risen 32.8 percent over the past 10 years, with the median home value growing 38.6 percent over that period, to $230,800.
My favorite community, Middleton takes the prize:
For the current tax year, the city of Middleton had the largest percentage tax increase of any large municipality in Wisconsin.
Taxes fell the most in West Bend (-4.6 percent), Franklin (-2.4 percent), and Mequon (-0.3 percent).
