Walker just released his campaign’s most recent deception,
something that he oddly calls “Education Improving pt 1,” a twist of fiction
and facts that hides the truth. He starts with his slogan “budget reforms are
working,” meaning that the one time solution provided by his “tools” supplied just the right amount of relief for one year.
…said Governor Walker, “This year we saw better class sizes, fewer teacher layoffs, and property taxes were kept in check. Most importantly educational opportunities for students were the best they have been in a decade.”
Again, its what we saw is one moment in time, for one year
only. The “fewer teacher layoffs” obscures the fact that a huge number of teachers were essentially forced to retire.
Walker also suggests that WEAC intentionally did
not take a statewide survey during the Doyle administrations so they could hide
something. I'll bet that during the Great Recession, most of the districts did all the curriculum cutting necessary. With Walker’s one time “tools,” cuts were kept to a minimum.
I’m not impressed. And by the way, no real chart or comparison can be made without the last two
years, especially after the recession. The final lie...
The released survey data shows that this year school districts are facing the best outlook in at least a decade. The 2011-12 WASDA survey showed overwhelmingly positive results for districts using collective bargaining reforms.
Walker completely misleads voters with “districts
are facing the best outlook.” “Outlook” refers to the future, which has nothing to do with this
press release. The states school districts actual outlook
is dramatically different than the one suggested here by Walker, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today,
and blogged here.
Finally, here's WEAC's Mary Bell on a few more important details Walker intentionally left out of his press release, from Sly in the Morning on WTDY 1670:
