A Cap on Welfare Benefits? Is that a job creator or death sentence for the poor?

If we could only stop paying money to people who need it, the state can see a savings, and balance their budgets.

Or better yet, if we don't give the welfare benefits, they won't need it anymore.

That's the convoluted logic of Republicans in Michigan. The people will still need the money, but to conservatives, they will all disappear I guess. They will suddenly all get jobs, they will all be motivated to stop taking money from those who work hard for a living.

Welcome to Dickensian America.

Freep.com: Legislation capping lifetime welfare benefits at 48 months was approved on party line votes in the state Senate on Wednesday. The bills implement the budget agreement made in late May between Gov. Rick Snyder and majority Republicans in both legislative chambers.
All Democrats voted against the bills, according to MIRS news service.
The legislation would save the general fund $63.5 million and would end benefits for 12,600 Michiganders, MIRS reported in citing the Senate Fiscal Agency.
