Sen. Luther Olsen and Alberta Darling have not only helped
take educators out of the decision making process in our classrooms, they’re
also giving partisan elected district board members the political power to turn
education lock, stock and barrel over to private experimentation-charter
schools. This is literally throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Oh, and if you don’t support charter privatization and want
to stay with public education? You can go to hell. This is what Republicans
call choice, putting parents in charge?
WPR: Republicans have introduced an amendment that would let school boards more easily convert all public schools in their district to charter schools. Under the amendment, school boards would no longer need the approval of the majority of a district's public school teachers before converting to a charter district. Also, a school board would no longer have to provide public school arrangements for students who don't want to attend charter school.
Democrats in the Senate's Education Committee today cried foul … State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma) says “We are making profound changes in the law related to public education in Wisconsin …
Committee Chair Luther Olsen (R-Ripon)/Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) dispute that the changes are substantive, saying the bill would give communities greater flexibility.
Anyone NOT think this is a substantive change? “Average Joe”
citizen school board members are now in control of public education. Think about that
for just a second. Still not sure how devastating Act 10 was?
Milwaukee Public Schools are the most racist in America!
ReplyDeleteAnd it isn't just because Milwaukee is the most-segregated city in America with multi-generations of poverty and people that were ENTIRELY UNDERSERVED by the structural racism at MPS.
No one, most of all, not a self-proclaimed "liberal" or "progressive" should support the institutional racism that has always been engrained in Milwaukee Public Schools.
Milaukee is going to pull down every other public school district in Wisconsin -- this is actually where the impetus to destroy public education comes from.
And the fact is -- in the case of MPS -- that system NEEDS to be defunded and smashed into a million pieces.
MPS is a cesspool but it is going to pull down many school districts that actually care about children.
It is easy to prove -- MPS admin DOES NOT GIVE A CRAP ABOUT KIDS AND LARGELY NEVER HAS
And MTEA & WEAC have a great deal of culpability for all of this.
