Reverse logic.
Republicans have been doing this for years, and conservatives love it. Take a negative, and accuse the other side of owning it. A form of projection, conservatives protect their biases, homophobia and racism by saying the other guy is guilty of all those things, and more. Take Rush Limbaugh, the grand dragon of radio:
When radio took into consideration community standards, before the almighty dollar replaced it, show hosts were held accountable for their words. Controversy made station owners and program directors nervous, and kept a tight rein over appearing too...racist.
Not anymore.
