The Mob Museum Won't Glorify Mobs Role, Making Vegas Entertainment Destination?

Only in Vegas…what else can I say.

CBC News: Las Vegas City Council has unveiled a playful logo for its so-called "mob" museum set to open in 2010.

The new facility: The Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. One logo dubs it "The (redacted) Museum," with "Mob" being the word redacted.

The museum has been a longtime pet project of Mayor Oscar Goodman, a former criminal defence lawyer who once represented organized crime figures such as Meyer Lansky and Anthony (Tony the Ant) Spilotro.

Councillors passed around promotional t-shirts bearing the cheeky phrase, "There is no such thing as a Mob museum nor have I ever been there."

Officials emphasize that the museum will not glorify organized crime nor mobsters. Instead, the intention is to candidly explore their influence on Las Vegas and the role they played in transforming the city into a famous gambling and entertainment destination.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is also on board and has pledged to lend artifacts from Washington for exhibits. The museum is slated to open in a former federal courthouse in downtown Las Vegas in spring 2010.
