Imagine the shock I felt when I woke up to my local public radio station and heard caller after caller explain why they were going to vote for John McCain, and their liberal use of the word terrorist and distrust to describe Barack Obama. It appears that appealing to the basest instincts of the conservative mind works in a most disconcerting way. I've included a number of those callers here in the clip below.
My own definition of a Republican, the base, is simple, but controversial for many: They are racist, bigoted and authoritarian idol worshippers. I'm not exactly reaching across the isle here I know, but then, when was the last time they ever gave up anything to the Democrats?
Personally I think I'm being honest. You can't expect the other side to change if all you do is encourage them to continue their bizarre and reckless behavior. If they know they can't get away with it anymore, they will have fewer options to deceive, and perhaps change ever so slightly.
One thing about "entitlement" programs, mentioned by one of the callers : They aren't entitlement programs, since we all have paid our hard earned money into them, expecting to receive that money in the future when we need it. Unless of course conservatives don't feel we're entitled to receive our own money back?
Is it me or are they confused?
