Ousted Thailand Prime Ministers Crime: Cooking Show

With the incredibly corrupt Bush administration heading out the door, unscathed by our now politicized legal system that favors conservative orthodoxy, other countries have a lower threshold for wrong doers. The CBC reports:

Thai leader forced to resign over TV cooking show.”Thailand's prime minister was forced to resign along with his cabinet on Tuesday after the country's Constitutional Court ruled that he had violated the constitution by hosting TV cooking shows. The defendant has violated Article 267 of the constitution, and his position as prime minister has ended," the head of the nine-judge panel said in Bangkok. Prime Minister Samak, a self-proclaimed foodie, hosted a popular television cooking show — Tasting and Complaining — for seven years before becoming prime minister. But he also made several appearances after taking office, breaking a constitutional prohibition on private employment while in office.

In his defence, Samak had claimed that he was not an employee of the company that made the show and only received payment for his transportation and the ingredients used for cooking.

Is Thailand more honorable in their concern over Constitution rule of law, than our yawning acceptance of those gaming our own, as Pres. Bush would put it, “god damn piece of paper?”
