La. House Strips Health Care but Not Their Own

Republicans have been arguing against universal health care coverage for years as a socialist horror and big government meddling. The bold faced truth they refuse to argue, and Democrats never bring up, is that they enjoy big government provided health care themselves. How is it that government servants have better insurance than the people they serve?

The following AP story inspired me to formulate a solution I think we can all be happy with.

“Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal's $30 billion state budget proposal for next year has been pared down by $120 million. The House budget committee wasted little time today in stripping millions of dollars…slated for the state Medicaid program that provides health care services to the poor, uninsured and elderly. Money also was taken away for public colleges and universities and for elementary and secondary education programs.”

Just once, I would like to see a governor propose stripping away health care funding for state legislators, especially for the go-it-alone Republican advocates of health savings accounts. It would be a test of ideology to see state representatives defend or denigrate taxpayer funded health care without bringing up a single payer plan for all Americans.

Who will take up the challenge?
