Obama gets wide support for his executive orders reining in gun lunacy.

Isn't it odd how Republicans can push an agenda that's just the opposite of what Americans want, but are still competitive politically? I think it has more to do with just how weak the Democrats are when it comes to framing and selling their platform.

People want common sense gun regulation:

And yet, Scott Walker just sent his lapdog AG after Obama. Walker believes it's an abuse of power to use executive orders. And yet, power is at the heart of Walker's game:

Superior Mayor Hagen said what he meant in "bad choice of words" about the Obama's!!!

Mayor Bruce Hagen of Superior not only called Obama a Muslim, but said he was destroying the country. 

“Unbelievable! She and her Muslim partner have destroyed the fabric of Democracy that was so very hard fought for."

Would you describe that as a "poor choice of words?" Someone should ask the mayor how he would rephrase that. Calling his statement below an apology would, in my opinion, be another "poor choice of words." And yet Mayor Hagen thinks we're all as dumb as his in denial bigoted supporters:

Why do we accept these vapidly empty Republican take-backs and non-apologies?

After all, it was only last week Mayor Hagen dug his heals in (picture) when residents protested his bigoted statement and outright lie about Obama's religion. He got major nationwide press. Despite being wrong, Mayor Hagen claimed he had a 1st Amendment free speech right to his opinion, completely missing the point. Like all Republicans caught in a lie or bigoted/racist comment, admit no wrong, dig in, and get what mileage you can:

Do we still have freedom of speech in the country? I, like any other citizen or public official, have the unalienable right to speak and represent my beliefs through the First Amendment. To retreat from the very freedoms that are guaranteed in the Constitution and for which many millions of men and women have fought to ensure, would be wrong and the continued attack on free speech.Sometimes I kind of forget. I have huge respect for the office of the president, but no respect for the current administration.”

Pretty clear choice of words, right? But the media is pretending his job saving non-apology is somehow okay and sincere. Not this time. 

Obama's Recovery Act's Energy Program saved $5.2 billion, and created 62,902 jobs.

If American wants to lead, why not in clean energy, it's a no brainer. And yet, the facts below won't mean anything to anti-environment, anti-government, anti-American, anti-job creating freeloaders who are happy with fossil fuels. Republicans are still saying the Recovery Act was a failure:

 from 2009 to 2015. It was funded by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA or Recovery Act) and was a one-time program.

Labor impacts ... EECBG produced a net total job gain of 62,902 job years for the BPAs studied. 

EECBG saved $1.7 billion in social costs of carbon due to energy savings alone and an additional $62 million in social costs avoided from displaced energy as a result of renewable generation. 

Bill Savings and cost-effectiveness ... produced $5.2 billion of total cumulative savings on energy bills, 70% of which were realized by residential consumers, 29% in the public institutional sector, and 1% the commercial and industrial sectors.

Tomah Guy wants to “take him out,” “take the shot” at usurper Obama, “CONSTITUTIONALY.”

Using every familiar talking point pushed by Republicans everywhere, a Tomah Wisconsin guy proudly declared he was going to take Obama out. The hate, racism and reality defying comments about Obama destroying the country and playing king gave us this guy, from Wisconsin...again. Hell, after polluting congress with Rep. Glenn Grothman and Paul Ryan, putting Reince Priebus in charge of the RNC, and now seeing the "divide and conquer" governor himself jump into the race for president, Wisconsin is on the leading edge of taking this country down for the count.

If it wasn't for the pride of racism surging in this country, the Tomah fanatic might not have said a thing to tip off authorities:

A warrant was issued for Brian Dutcher, 55, who was charged Thursday with making a threat to kill the president.

Dutcher approached a security guard at the La Crosse Public Library and said, “The usurper is here and if I get a chance I’ll take him out and I’ll take the shot” … he confirmed the statement and said he had made similar statements on his Facebook page … “That’s it! Thursday I will be in La Crosse. Hopefully I will get a clear shot at the pretend president. Killing him is our CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY!”

Dutcher told a La Crosse police his threat was serious and he would not have said what he said if he didn’t intend to carry it out … “I have been praying on going to D.C. for 3 months and now the upsurper is coming HERE … saving me a 800 mile trip … doing what I do for my daughter, so she can live free … pray for me to succeed in my mission … secret service is probably tracking my phone right now. I do not hide what I am doing, CONSTITUTIONALY.”

Walker tells world Obama lacks leadership, should stop attacking congress.

Republicans have decided that calling President Obama a liar and delegitimizing everything he's ever stood for wasn't enough, so they're now pretending he doesn't exist, by dealing with foreign governments on their own and promising to abandon any agreements Obama's negotiated.

Who could have imagined this ever happening? This is beyond radicalism, beyond racism, beyond policy that spells the end of the experiment we call the United States. This is a declaration of war by a party crazy enough to hold the rest of the world hostage. After all, they've done that with the nations solvency, why not foreign countries?

President Obama commented on one of the most irresponsible declarations yet by a presidential candidate, Gov. Scott Walker. While Walker has waffled on every questions he's never answered, it's foreign policy where he's suddenly decided to draw the line:

NPR: Obama scoffed at Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's suggestion that he would, on Day 1, revoke any nuclear agreement with Iran if he is elected president.

"It would be a foolish approach to take," Obama said in an interview with NPR's Steve Inskeep, "and perhaps Mr. Walker — after he's taken some time to bone up on foreign policy — will feel the same way."

"Absolutely. I will pull back on that on Jan. 20, 2017, because I think the last thing not just for the region, but for this world we need is a nuclear-armed Iran."

While the Democratic Party “flames on” again, with Sen. Chuck Schumer helping Republicans delegitimize Obama, Walker’s march to war is inexcusable. Walker might just bluster his way into the White House, demanding compliance from other countries in the region...or else:

"President Obama's failed leadership has put him at odds with many across the country, including members of his own party, and key allies around the world. Whether it is cutting a bad deal with Iran, calling ISIS the JV squad, or touting Yemen as a success story, Obama's lack of leadership has hurt America's safety and standing in the world. I mean, to me, it is, the concept of a nuclear Iran is not only problematic for Iran, and certainly for Israel, but it opens the doors. I mean, the Saudis are next. You're going to have plenty of others in the region. People forget that even among the Islamic world, there is no love lost between the Saudis and the Iranians. And so they're going to want to have a nuclear weapon if the Iranians have a nuclear weapon. This is something that just escalates right before our eyes."

Amazing.

Is Obama bad for business, destroying economy? Seems GOP proven wrong again when it comes to Wall Street.

Scott Walker and WISGOP succeeded in distracting the press long enough to make Walker's Laborfest participation a non-story.

Press Getting Fooled Again: The media couldn't get enough of the phony "Burke won't be seen with Obama" story. Like past Labor Day celebrations where Republicans like Sean Duffy and Paul Ryan hypocritically took part in hometown parades, Walker was right there gritting his teeth and waving to the crowd that wished he'd go away permanently.

You'd think Walker would have been more comfortable in the company of Sheldon Adelson or David Koch?

Republican Gov. Scott Walker, who pushed through a law that stripped most public sector union members of their ability to collectively bargain … was at General Mitchell International Airport to greet Obama upon his arrival in Milwaukee. Walker also greeted the labor leaders accompanying Obama, including Mary Kay Henry of the Services Employees International Union and Leo Gerard of the United Steelworkers Union.

Michelle Bachmann pushes Lawsuit against Obama, blows Neil Cavuto's mind....

John Boehner is planning to sue Obama for writing all of those executive orders. Sure it's petty and costly to taxpayers, but he and the Republican do-nothing congress don't have nothing else to do.

But for Fox News' Neil Cavuto, it seemed crazy and a waste of time. Why now he asked Michelle Bachmann, and why not solve the problems Obama's trying to solve with executive orders, instead of wasting time going to court?

This is a rare common sense moment for Fox News, and an example of what would happen if the media tried to get Republicans to explain the unexplainable:



I wasn't the only one who saw this amazing exchange. I just ran across this Huffington Post coverage:

Huffington Post: Cavuto asked Bachmann "why now" for a lawsuit “if this has been going on for a long time now," adding that he considers it “an enormous waste of effort.”

“Fix whatever’s wrong right now instead of dragging the other side to court … just do something, you know what I’m saying?” Cavuto said. “Where was your rage when Democrats -- when Democrats where going after President [George W.] Bush on the same use of executive orders?" Cavuto said. "Because I think you knew then that was a waste of time then, and I think you know in your heart of hearts this is a waste of time now … by the way Rome’s burning." 

Eventually, Bachmann brought up the idea of defunding the Executive Branch, which she had also mentioned earlier.

Cavuto brushed off the suggestion, saying "Democrats would be in their right mind to laugh you out right now."

Obama's Presidency is Over?

I was kind of waiting for this day to arrive, and it officially has via this MSNBC announcement from Chuck Todd:

My conservative friend in Milwaukee took a break from Benghazi and Obama's IRS scandal to tell me, "see, I told you so." Chuck Todd's opinion centered on just one poll. But to me, it proved how one party can win the public over with a massive unrelenting campaign to discredit anyone it chooses. In this case it was Obama. But this tactic can be used on anyone not looked on favorably by the political authority in charge.

I emailed back:

I’m doing a quick story on this. What it really says to me: The tactic of one party to fully trash relentlessly everything a president does, with lies, fabrications, fictions and conspiracy theories, works. I never thought it was possible to align everyone in a party to think and say the same thing over and over whether it was true or not...but it is.

Congratulations, it must feel great being on the “winning” side (according to Todd anyway). All this time you have been obsessed with “winning” in our conversations, at any cost. Yes, the great Chuck Todd is now the voice of reason and not just a part of the liberal cabal at MSNBC. Flip flop?

And your plan for the new government and constitutional convention after you throw out the old one? Maybe we can make the government more like you, or maybe like someone else you don’t agree with all. See how much say you’ll have when they draw that up.

Besides losing on their push for a war with Russia and staying in an endless war in Afghanistan, the GOP campaign proved they could put the country on a firm war footing and leave prisoners of war behind if they so choose to in the future under a Republican controlled government:

According to the poll, 44% of respondents said the administration should not have made the exchange, compared with 30% who supported it. 

When asked their predictions on the rest of Obama's term in office, 54% said they thought he "cannot lead and get the job done," compared with only 42% who said the opposite. 

Over the last 12 months, 41% of respondents said their views of the Obama administration have "gotten worse." 

But there was good news here:

On the generic congressional ballot, 35% said they would vote for a Democratic candidate in their district, compared with 30% who chose a theoretical Republican candidate.

Tea Party's Lyin' Ryan claims Obama is a Lawless President! And we're supposed to take him seriously on the budget?

Paul Ryan knows how to spin BS, like his workaround argument regarding the number of Obama’s “executive orders.”

According to Ryan, it’s not how many orders, because Republicans lost that lie to the facts, but the “scope” of his executive orders. And that means…?

One important fact: The Affordable Care Act allows for flexibility and delays to the mandates as problems come up. Below, Ryan feeds off the tea party frenzy over ObamaCare.

Think about it, this guy who could have been our vice president is calling Obama's term, a “Lawless presidency.” That's not true, unless we’re getting rid of presumed innocence? I wouldn't put it past him.

jsonline: Rep. Paul Ryan said Sunday that President Barack Obama is running an "increasingly lawless presidency" by circumventing Congress. Host George Stephanopoulos suggested to Ryan that Obama's rate of using executive orders was far behind Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton.

It’s the “scope” and “new laws?” Ryan then admits it’s just a difference of opinion:

Said Ryan: "It's not the number of executive orders, it's the scope of the executive orders. It's the fact that he is actually contradicting law like in the health care case, or proposing new laws without going through congress, George, that's the issue."

Stephanopoulos asked Ryan if he planned to try to impeach Obama. Said Ryan: "No, I'm not — look, what we — we have a difference of opinion, clearly, and — and some of these are going to get fought out in court. And I think these executive orders are creating a dangerous trend which is contrary to the Constitution."

Like the dangerous trend from all the past presidents? Ryan has lost it.

If you ask any Republican if they remember the Bush/Cheney argument for the "unitary executive," where Bush would have had ultimate power over everything...they don't remember. I remember it well, and so did Barney Frank in this rare public mention. From Al Sharpton yesterday:

Executive orders are nothing new. In his first five years, Obama issued 167 executive orders -- a lower rate than George W. Bush (291 over eight years), Bill Clinton (364 over eight years), George H.W. Bush (166 over four years), Ronald Reagan (381 over eight years), or for that matter Dwight Eisenhower (486 over eight years). 

In the general category of “executive action,” much of the most important work comes from “regulations,” which typically have the force of law.

Before they are finalized, significant regulations are subject to careful scrutiny within the executive branch, and also to a process of public comment. They must also comport with the law. For this reason, it is misleading -- a kind of rhetorical trick -- to suggest that they are “bypassing Congress.” On the contrary, Congress has previously authorized them through legislation. Most of them are not subject to serious legal challenge.

Peggy Noonan offered a "classy" suggestion to President Barack Obama on Tuesday: go to bat for that rodeo clown in Missouri. 

Let me suggest a classy Obama move that might go over well. From his Vineyard vacation spot he should have the press office issue a release saying his reaction to finding out a rodeo clown was rudely spoofing him, was, “So what?” Say he loves free speech, including inevitably derision directed at him, and he does not wish for the Missouri state fair to fire the guy, and hopes those politicians (unctuously, excessively, embarrassingly) damning the clown and the crowd would pipe down and relax. This would be graceful and nice, wouldn't it? He would never do it. He gives every sign of being a person who really believes he shouldn't be made fun of, and if he is it’s probably racially toned, because why else would you make fun of him?

Sure, Obama should acknowledge this circus sideshow clown act. Right.

Why does Obama have to go on vacation so often during our continuing economic crisis? Well, he doesn't.

You didn't really think Republicans need leadership in Washington from Obama every time he went on vacation, did you? This proves my thesis; Republican like small government because they're lazy "on the government dole" freeloaders. Any questions?

 

How Does Scott Walker, the job killing/WEDC failing governor, keep his approval ratings up?

I have never been able to figure out how Scott Walker got reelected in the Democratic stronghold of Milwaukee as their county executive, time after time, with his horrible record.

Walker continues that streak with a strong approval rating despite failing over and over again at what was supposed to be the Republican Party's central focus: jobs.

He continues to brag about balancing the budget, a fete matched only by...every other governor. He's pit neighbor against neighbor, divided the state permanently, and keeps accumulating power like other notorious world dictators.

PPP is out with their latest, and here's the mind bending numbers-we love Scott Walker:

The poll found little change from previous surveys in Walker’s approval rating: 51% approved and 45% disapproved of his performance in office.  That’s consistent with almost all the polling on Walker that Marquette has done over the past 12 months.

Walker's numbers match Obama's: 

President Barack Obama’s Wisconsin numbers were identical:  51% approved and 45% disapproved of his performance in office.

Big Government under Obama? Not Quite.....

This might tell a different story than the one conservative voters are hearing on right wing talk radio:

Obama gives up Social Security as Government Welfare Program that needs cutting.

Proposing any cuts to Social Security and Medicare is not only the opposite of what should happen, but adds credibility to the argument that these programs are truly handouts and not lifesaving safety nets. Click pictures to enlarge.

And yet President Obama, after running on a second term campaign to make no cuts, has essentially harmed the programs credibility in a permanent way. Believe me, I’m not overstating what has happened.

There’s no going back now on the idea seniors need to spend more, with less, for private sector profits. That’s not to say some future congress will return to the original idea of the programs, that will happen, it’s just that we didn't have to repeat the whole process FDR and Johnson fought so hard to create. It's the Republicans who wanted to kick that can down the road for the easy way out today.

Wouldn't it make more sense to lift the cap a little, or even a lot, to shore up SS. Why that’s not still a part of the plan is mystifying.

Fox News: Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., fired off a statement: "In 2008, candidate Barack Obama told the American people that he would not cut Social Security.  Having him go back on his word will only add to the rampant political cynicism that our country is experiencing today."

Chained CPI-a provision to lower cost-of-living adjustments to Social Security: The inflation adjustment would reduce federal spending over 10 years by about $130 billion, according to past White House estimates. Because it also affects how tax brackets are adjusted, it would also generate about $100 in higher taxes and affect even middle income taxpayers.

The reductions in growth of benefit programs, which would affect veterans, the poor and the older Americans, is sure to anger many Democrats.
