Rep. Paul Ryan said that the rise of ISIS stems from poor decisions made by the Obama administration in Syria and Iraq, and that the group was now filling "a vacuum" in the area.

Sotloff ... Ryan said the United States needs to conduct a campaign to defeat the Islamic State, the jihadist group that purportedly beheaded a second U.S. journalist Tuesday. "On behalf of civilization, on behalf of our freedom, we have to deal with this threat comprehensively and thoroughly now. It is a terrorist organization unlike any we've seen before," Ryan said. "They're like al-Qaida 3.0."

The Blustery War Mongers Return: Have we forgotten how comical it was the way the Bush administration always backed away from their empty war threats? Apparently so. Moneynews: Even in death Osama bin Laden will be taking revenge on American taxpayers for years to come. 

The U.S. government spent $2 trillion combating bin Laden over the past decade, more than 20 percent of the nation’s $9.68 trillion public debt. That money paid for wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as additional military, intelligence and homeland security spending above pre-Sept. 11 trends, according to a Bloomberg analysis. 

This year alone, taxpayers are spending more than $45 billion in interest on the money borrowed to battle al-Qaida, the analysis shows. 

The financial bleeding won’t stop with bin Laden’s demise. One of every four dollars in red ink the U.S. expects to incur in the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1 will result from $285 billion in annual spending triggered by the terrorist scion of a wealthy Saudi family. 

Without bin Laden, “we would have accumulated less debt, be spending less on interest and we would be on a lower spending path going forward,” said Dean Baker, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, a research organization in Washington.

AP - Frustrated by recent political setbacks, tea party leaders and some conservative members of the Oklahoma Legislature say they would like to create a new volunteer militia to help defend against what they believe are improper federal infringements on state sovereignty … several supportive lawmakers hope to get legislation next year to recognize a new volunteer force. They say the unit would not resemble militia groups that have been raided for allegedly plotting attacks on law enforcement officers.

"Is it scary? It sure is," said tea party leader Al Gerhart of Oklahoma City, who heads an umbrella group of tea party factions called the Oklahoma Constitutional Alliance. "But when do the states stop rolling over for the federal government?"

Even the proponents say they don't know how an armed force would be organized nor how a state-based militia could block federal mandates. Critics also asserted that the force could inflame extremism, and that the National Guard already provides for the state's military needs.

"Have they heard of the Oklahoma City bombing?" said Joseph Thai, a constitutional law professor at the University of Oklahoma. Such actions could "throw fuel in the fire of radicals," he said. But the militia talks reflect the frustration of some grass roots groups seeking new ways of fighting recent federal initiatives, such as the health reform plan, which requires all citizens to have health insurance.

Providing health care for every American citizens is the driving force to behind a possible armed revolt against the government? It wasn't the war of choice, allowing 9/11 to happen, running up a $1.2 trillion budget deficit, wire tapping phones, torture, tanking the global economy, secret meeting to develop U.S. energy policy, politicizing the justice department and supreme court, corruption and corporate campaign influence.

Health care!

State Sen. Randy Brogdon, a Republican candidate for governor … believes the citizen unit would be authorized under the Second Amendment to the Constitution. The founding fathers "were not referring to a turkey shoot or a quail hunt. They really weren't even talking about us having the ability to protect ourselves against each other," Brogdon said. "The Second Amendment deals directly with the right of an individual to keep and bear arms to protect themselves from an overreaching federal government."

Tea party leader J.W. Berry of the Tulsa-based OKforTea began soliciting interest in a state militia through his newsletter under the subject "Buy more guns, more bullets."

"It's not a far-right crazy plan or anything like that," Berry said. "This would be done with the full cooperation of the state legislature."

Below, Chris Matthews talks to Al Gerhart, who basically admits the "regulated militia" proposal is symbolic. Despite Gerhart's wildly contradictory statements, he comes across as a more reasonable person, who recognizes the problems of forming a militia and the illogic of trying to protect Oklahoma from an over reaching federal government. If the whole idea wasn't so crazy, I'd feel a little sympathy for Gerhart's point of view.

AP News Tries to Equate Palin with Obama!!! Does "He said/She said" Work With "nucular" Weapons Treaties?

AP reporter Liz Sidoti,wrote this headline: "Palin, Obama spar from a distance" as if to suggest there existed some equivalent comparison between the two politicians. A dumbass half term governor with a speech writer, and a president with experienced advisors that include the secretary of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff?

Are Americans on a collective bad trip? Sidoti surrealistically writes:

"President Barack Obama and Republican Sarah Palin sparred from a distance over nuclear policy with each questioning the other's experience on the issue in a potential preview of the 2012 White House race."

It's as if Palin has any credibility, one shred of understanding, on the issue of "nukular" reduction treaties.

And Obama didn't really directly respond to Palin's bizarre opposition to the treaty, but was instead answering a question asked by an ABC News reporter about Palin's recent statement, like it really mattered.

Palin statement:

"No administration in America's history would, I think, ever have considered such a step that we just found out President Obama is supporting today."

I recall President Ronald Reagan saying once:

"We're not just discussing limits on a further increase of nuclear weapons, we seek to instead reduce their number. We seek a total elimination one day of nuclear weapons from the face of the earth."

What earth is Palin referring too? As far as Obama's answer:

"I really have no response. Because last I checked, Sarah Palin's not much of an expert on nuclear issues ... If the secretary of Defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are comfortable with it, I'm probably going to take my advice from them and not from Sarah Palin."

Mocking the president, she (Palin) dismissed

"all the vast nuclear experience that he acquired as a community organizer."

How wrong is Palin? Check out Obama's EXTENSIVE experience below. Getting mileage now before Palin's bullshit completely disproved is a common conservative ploy. Obama is taking the advice of experts, by the way, he's not drawing from his experience as a community organizer.



And this is how the media will be treating the crazy lunatic anti-government Ayn Randers and Milton Friedman wanna-be's, the ones who had the ideological balls to create the Great Recession, and ignore it.

Media Matters: In Senate, Obama worked on non-proliferation policy, co-authored "next critical step" on issue

Obama took fact-finding trip to former USSR to examine WMD stockpiles. In 2005, in his first foreign trip as a U.S. senator, Obama traveled to Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan with Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN), then-chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. The purpose of the trip was to examine facilities for the storage and destruction of conventional, biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons. Obama and Lugar subsequently co-wrote a December 2005 Washington Post op-ed on the issue and appeared together in a discussion at the Council on Foreign Relations on "Challenges Ahead For Cooperative Threat Reduction," in which Obama detailed ways to improve the U.S. program to control, secure, and dismantle weapons of mass destruction in the former Soviet Union.

With Lugar, Obama co-authored non-proliferation initiative signed into law by President Bush. Obama and Lugar co-authored the "Lugar-Obama non-proliferation initiative," which "enhances U.S. efforts to destroy conventional weapons stockpiles and to detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction throughout the world." The legislation was signed into law by President Bush in January 2007. According to a June 28, 2007, press release from Lugar, he and Obama subsequently secured "$36 million for programs to destroy heavy conventional weapons, $10 million for efforts to intercept weapons and materials of mass destruction, and $2 million for rapid response to proliferation detection and interdiction emergencies."

Lugar praised Obama's "productive" work on nonproliferation that took "next critical step" on the issue. In an August 2008 Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette op-ed (retrieved from the Nexis database), Lugar wrote that "Sen. Obama has worked with me, productively, on non-proliferation issues. We jointly introduced a bill that strengthened U.S. defenses against proliferation of weapons of mass destruction."

He further wrote: Sen. Obama joined me in developing legislation in 2005 -- long before he was a presidential candidate -- to address emerging proliferation risks. After significant study and site visits, it became clear to us that additional safeguards were required to strengthen the lines of defense between unsecured weapons of mass destruction and U.S. borders and to deal with vulnerable stockpiles of conventional weapons and hand-held anti-aircraft missiles. The Nunn-Lugar program has provided a solid foundation, valuable experience and measurable results. With the Lugar-Obama legislation, we took the next critical step forward to refocus and reinvigorate our country's non-proliferation mission.

In 2005, I traveled with Sen. Obama to Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan to oversee a number of proliferation projects. In Russia, we visited Nunn-Lugar sites where nuclear weapons were being dismantled and stored. In Ukraine, we inspected the Donetsk State Chemical Production Plant, a conventional weapons destruction facility where the U.S. has taken the lead in a three-year NATO program to destroy the weapons. At that facility, more than 117,000 tons of ammunition and 1.1 million small arms and light weapons are slated for destruction within 12 years. During the visit we encouraged Ukrainian officials to expedite destruction efforts and expand cooperative threat reduction of conventional weapons. In Azerbaijan, we observed sea interdiction exercises in the Caspian Sea and encouraged leaders there to continue their cooperation with the United States.

These programs are ongoing. For a relatively small investment they are making a huge difference to U.S. and global security.

Tea Party Crazy's Look to Nuke Someone, Oppose Obama Treaty of Weakness.

Who could oppose making our world safer. Even President Ronald Reagan sought to sought to do away with nuclear weapons completely. But:

The GOP could well see an irresistible opening to criticize the broader security policies of Obama and his Democratic allies. Republicans … could seek to postpone its ratification to deny Obama a victory ahead of the November midterm elections.

Eisenhower … become worried by a growing clamor emanating from the Pentagon, supported by “wizard of Armageddon” intellectuals like Henry Kissinger and Democrats keen on retaking the White House, that the United States could wage, and win, a “limited” nuclear war. If that happened, Eisenhower firmly believed, the war would inexorably escalate into a thermonuclear holocaust.
President Obama announced a new American approach to nuclear war that comes right out of Eisenhower’s playbook. And, indeed, Mr. Obama quickly came under criticism from those who have argued that, just as their predecessors did in the 1950s, that limits on the use of atomic weapons somehow make a nuclear war more likely. “By further unilaterally limiting the circumstances in which the U.S. would use nuclear weapons to protect itself and its allies,” warned John Bolton, the former United Nations ambassador, “the Obama administration is in fact increasing international instability and the risks of future conflicts.”

If the rest of the world is going to trust America to supervise a nuclear-free world, it hardly needs to be said that the United States must forgo using its vast nuclear arsenal for any political or military purpose save basic deterrence.

President George Bush put terrorists on trial (remember the shoe bomber Richard Reid) in civilian court without a Republican objection. He was even praised for locking these monsters up.

So the effort by Liz Cheney's scary sounding group, Keep America Safe, to politicize terrorism and to capitalize on peoples fears in the ad below, is transparently manipulative and hysterically grotesque.

So thank you Massachusetts, with your universal state health care program, for giving us the superficially attractive anti-universal health care Senator Scott Brown (R-Mass.), who gave Liz Cheney the "slogan" you can believe in: “Tell President Obama our tax dollars should pay for weapons to stop terrorists and not lawyers to defend them.”

Since when did we start embracing the idea of government propaganda as an exceptable form of marketing?

More Than Half of Afghanistan's People Paid Bribes to Public Officials. We're Fighting for What There?

President Obama must be aware of the systemic corruption problem in Afghanistan. It's time to turn away from nation building in countries that don't show any hope or promise for change.

The Economist: A survey by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime found that more than half of Afghanistan’s people had to pay a bribe to a public official last year. The police topped the list of bribe recipients. Nearly 60% of those surveyed saw corruption as a bigger problem than lack of security.

A survey conducted by the UN’s Office on Drugs and Crime found that half of the 7,600 Afghans interviewed had paid a bribe in the previous year (see chart), handing over on average $160 each time, about a third of average annual GDP per head. This extrapolates to about $2.5 billion worth of baksheesh nationally every year: roughly as large as Afghanistan’s opium economy, and a quarter of licit economic output.

For most Afghans, corruption outranks insecurity and unemployment as the country’s greatest challenge. Corruption corrodes Mr Karzai’s legitimacy; if he does not curb it, other problems may prove insoluble.

Fighting Dem Joan Walsh Trashes Creepy Cheney Sycophant Ron Christie

Fellow Madisonian Joan Walsh channeled exactly what I wanted to say to Cheney idol worshipper Ron Christie on Hardball Wednesday afternoon. Walsh summed up exactly what Cheney and the Republican Party have been trying to do since day one of his administration, and that is to minimize and de-legitimize Obama's term as president. Chris Matthews even pressed him on Cheney's ruthless criticisms, which only elicited a Christie chuckle.

In regards to sending Gitmo detainees to an Illinois prison....

Surprised? Of course our current system of law enforcement is completely inadequate to house these dangerous "terrorists" on U.S. soil.

Or, Republicans are scared to death of terrorists, and Al Qaeda has won the war on America's psyche. But authoritarian...

Of course, he knows what the American people want according to polls, even though polls have shown the American people wanted a public option in health care. But that was different I guess...

Either McConnell still doesn't get how Gitmo is being used as an Al Qaeda recruiting tool, or he is refusing consider that an all important bit of intelligence. That's why he said this...

He accused the administration of failing to explain how transferring the detainees would keep the public safer than keeping them offshore in Cuba.

Duh! Message to McConnell...booo.

Karzai Slips, Needs U.S. for 20 Years. We Just Made A BIG Mistake.

At first I was angry with Obama for sending more troops to Afghanistan, but after seeing President Hamid Karzai admit his country won't be able to manage itself for another 15 to 20 years, I went ballistic. It didn't help that William Gates joked about it.



Despite Karzai's frightening admission, he also slam dunked the Republican objection "to the setting of a hard deadline for withdrawing troops for fear it would encourage the Taliban to play a waiting game Karzai said the deadline, just 18 months away, is "not a concern for us — it is rather an impetus."

"For Afghans it's good that we are facing a deadline," he said. "We must begin to stand on our own feet. Even if it is with our own meager means — whatever those means may be. And we must begin to defend our own country.

"If we, the Afghan people, cannot defend our country, ourselves, against an aggressor from within or without, then no matter what the rest of the world does with us, it will not produce the desired results," he said during the one-hour interview at the turreted brick palace in the heavily guarded heart of the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Country (Afghanistan) First. Give 'em our Stimulus Money Too, Say Repubicans.

Who seriously suggested giving U.S. taxpayer money from the stimulus to Afghanistan, while taking it away from the American people during a time of high unemployment, crumbling infrastructure and unaffordable health care. The Republicans, proudly, without shame. And they weren't kidding:

McConnell made sure to share the blame with Democrats for not paying for previous wars. "As you know, in previous years both sides agreed not to," said McConnell (though the GOP controlled Congress through 2006 and the White House through 2008, leaving Democrats little opportunity to fund a war).

Only about a quarter of the stimulus funds have been spent so far.

Let me get this right; Republicans want to give OUR stimulus money to another country. Can you see now why they crashed the world economy and didn't feel obligated to clean up after themselves?

Dick Cheney: Publicity Agent of Al Qaeda offers Advice to Our Enemies.

Dick Cheney has a few talking points for our enemies. In fact, Cheney is more concerned with helping Al Qaeda put on their best face in light of the New York trials, by giving our enemies ideas and marketing strategies to bring in new recruits. And that should make it easier for them to fight our troops and attack the U.S.. For instance, in this interview with Politico:

1. Cheney advises Al Qaeda to define Obama as a weak leader: “Every time he delays, defers, debates, changes his position, it begins to raise questions: Is the commander in chief really behind what they’ve been asked to do?”
2. Cheney offers the Taliban and Al Qaeda tips on how to take advantage of a demoralized Afghan citizen by observing how they “see talk about exit strategies and how soon we can get out, instead of talk about how we win. “Those folks ... begin to look for ways to accommodate their enemies. They’re worried the United States isn’t going to be there much longer and the bad guys are.”

3. Cheney hands radical terrorist groups this bullet point portrayal of Obama, as a guy who "projects 'weakness' and that the president is looking 'far more radical than I expected.'

4. Cheney tells Al Qaeda to hang in there: “Here’s a guy without much experience, who campaigned against much of what we put in place ... and who now travels around the world apologizing,” Cheney said. “I think our adversaries — especially when that’s preceded by a deep bow ... see that as a sign of weakness.”

5. Cheney also makes sure Al Qaeda takes full advangtage of the trial of Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the Sept. 11 … “One of their top people will be given the opportunity — courtesy of the United States government and the Obama administration — to have a platform from which they can espouse this hateful ideology that they adhere to,” he said. “I think it’s likely to give encouragement — aid and comfort — to the enemy.”

Could Cheney be a Karl Rovian figure to Al Qaeda' world wide marketing plan?

Even Democrats like Bayh are so Afraid of Terrorists, War Spending Worth Going Broke as Nation.

Is it really too late for a war tax? Evan Bayh, a Democrat believe it or not, misses the chance to finally start paying for the Bush war on terror. While he won't vote for a public option in health care reform because it MIGHT cost too much money, spending on an endless war is fine. After all, its all being done because the Republican Party has convinced everyone we should all be afraid, very afraid of the terrorist threat.

Keep in mind, Bin laden's chief objective was to involve the U.S. in a middle eastern war that would drive the U.S. into bankruptcy. Why isn't anyone bring up that little well known fact?
