“We do have an abstinence curriculum, and that evidently ain’t working,” superintendent Jim Rumage told the TV station. “We need to do all we can, although it’s the parents’ responsibility to educate their kids on sexual education.”

Politically Correct Conservative Speech taking over…
jsonline: The issue is a student-led, 12-week workshop called FemSex, modeled after long-standing courses at the University of California-Berkely and Brown University to engage students in the exploration of social forces through the lens of female sexuality. The workshop publicly came under fire when a Marquette political science professor John McAdams earlier this month published an article on his personal blog, "Marquette Warrior," denouncing FemSex as anti-Catholic and criticizing the university for sponsoring it.
McAdams alleged in his blog that FemSex workshops at other universities tell women "that men are evil exploiters."
Marquette student Claire Van Fossen, a Trinity Fellow working on her masters degree in nonprofit management, said McAdams suggested the workshop would be a "bawdy hen party" to "obsess on sex," comprised only of women spewing hateful, sexist rhetoric, and painting an image of college women as "whining neurotics." The blog, she alleges, is homophobic.
Van Fossen blamed a former Marquette College Republicans president for turning … Marquette administrators against the workshop.
Among the activities workshop critics found objectionable: coloring anatomical images of vaginas, referred to by a reappropriated feminist term that many consider offensive. After learning about the content of the workshop from a student, university leaders reviewed the workshop outline and found that aspects fell outside the center’s stated purpose … Marquette University President Father Scott Pilarz and Provost John Pauly pulled the university's sponsorship about a week ago. Van Fossen said FemSex "does not teach any curriculum, push any agenda, condone any behavior, or act as therapy. Thus, at its core, FemSex is about introspection, discussion, exploration, and self-empowerment. Or are those anti-Catholic now, too?"

Sen. Mary Lazich against Comprehensive Sex Ed, wants to leave curriculum open to local opinion, fiction...whatever.
"...a heavy duty state mandate that if they teach sex education, it must be comprehensive education."And that's just too much education? Can the same thing be said of math, science or any other subject not favored to the our authoritarian overlords, the Republican Party? Lazich's new state mandate allows school districts to "create" their own curriculum, based on whatever fiction, exaggeration or religious doctrine districts see fit. As Sen. Chris Larson argues here on Upfront with Mike Gousha:
Larson: "There is not different local definitions of what is medically accurate, and that is what this bill reversed...it kind of leaves it to the locals to do that...it's like not teaching drivers ed, and hoping and praying they don't get into accidents and pretending cars don't exist."

Republican Sex Ed Repeal another Embarrassment for Wisconsin, and still not a JOBS BILL!!
Rachel Maddow:
Republican Sen. Galloway Proposes State Requirement for Abstinence Only as a way to bring back "Local Control?"
Republican state Sen. Mary Lazich and Sen. Pam Galloway would roll back an existing state law that prohibits school districts from teaching abstinence-only sex education programs. Galloway said the new bill is intended to give control over curriculum back to local school boards. "The Healthy Youth Act was a one-size-fits-all approach," Galloway said.
The new bill requires districts that opt to provide sex education to present abstinence as the only sure way to prevent pregnancy or STDs. Schools could opt to provide information about birth control.
Opponents of the bill packed a committee hearing in Madison Wednesday, arguing that the measure would increase teen pregnancy and disease rates.

Republicans Jobs Plan says NO to Sex Education.
Senators Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin), Pam Galloway, MD (R-Wausau), Glen Grothman (R-West Bend), and Joe Leibham (R-Sheboygan) have introduced Senate Bill 237 to repeal Wisconsin’s Healthy Youth Act. (that) improves the health of young people, by requiring Wisconsin public schools that choose to teach sex education provide students with comprehensive information that includes medically-accurate and age-appropriate information about abstinence, birth control and barrier methods to prevent unintended pregnancy and STDs. The law also requires that teens are taught life skills they need to say no to sex, to insist on contraception, and to communicate with parents and other trusted adults about these issues.
The Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health (WAWH): “This extreme anti-prevention, anti-science, and hence pro-teen pregnancy, pro-poverty and pro-abortion bill is completely out of touch with Wisconsin voters and values.”

Republican State Sen. Mary Lazich Proposes the Elimination of Comprehensive Reproductive Education.
Remember when Republicans freaked out over the presidents message to kids in school. They're less worried about their own conservative agenda being taught as truth, or, that it would wipe out courses that don't agree with their ideology. Prudish to an extreme, this bit of social engineering was proposed on Friday, when the media was least likely to notice:
On Friday, September 30, at 5:00 pm, State Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) introduced a bill that would eliminate comprehensive reproductive education from Wisconsin's public high schools. The Young Progressives, regarding this proposal:The Daily Cardinal reported this quote from "prude" Lazich:
Sen. Lazich's bill is an attack on scientifically proven reproductive educational requirements, which are supported by the vast majority of parents in Wisconsin. Far from giving district school boards "tools‟ and "local control,‟ Sen. Lazich continues to attack public education and students "rights." Beginning with the largest budget cuts to public education in the history of the state of Wisconsin, Lazich continues to abridge freedom in school by advocating for the presence of a regressive social agenda in Wisconsin‟s classrooms.
State Sen. Mary Lazich recommends school districts teach abstinence as "the only reliable method for avoiding pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases." It would also remove information about contraception from the curriculum and emphasize "the positive connection between marriage and parenting." Lazich said the bill "fosters a partnership between parents and the school district … that is in the best interest of the student's health and well-being."

President Rick Perry? Oh my god no! If you ever watch one Perry performance, this is it.
Huffington Post: When confronted with the dismal statistics during an October 15, 2010 televised interview with Texas Tribune reporter Evan Smith, Perry's response was to reaffirm that "abstinence works."
Texas lawmakers cut sex ed from two six-month courses to a single unit of "abstinence only" education. Teens in almost all high school grades were having more sex after undergoing the abstinence only program. By 2007, Texas had the highest teen birth rate in the nation. By 2009, 94 percent of Texas schools, which at the time were educating more than 3.7 million students, were giving no sex ed whatsoever beyond "abstinence only," a curriculum that includes emphasizing that birth control doesn't work. But none of this seems to matter to Gov. Rick Perry.

Fringe right-wing extremist group, Pro-Life Wisconsin, Exploits Jesus' Image at Christmas. Should be called Low-Life Wisconsin.
The party of opposites decries big government, the liberal kind, but waves their own socialist brand of freedom squelching nanny state laws over our personal choices. Instead of getting out of our lives, they pound the bible and demand we follow their unconstitutionally adopted national religion. Isn't it odd how empowered these radical militant groups feel once the Republican Party comes to power.

Madison: The signs are the latest salvo in Pro-Life Wisconsin's stepped-up campaign---weeks after the election flipped political power in the state to Republican rule---to dismantle abortion rights in Wisconsin. Virginia Zignego, the group's communications director, told me a couple of days ago that the organization is also gearing up to try to get rid of a controversial state law passed last year requiring comprehensive sex education, including information about birth control, in Wisconsin schools. Supporters of the law claim it is desperately needed to combat an epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases among teens in the state.
Two days ago I blogged about 13 Milwaukee billboards, also erected this week, which feature an image of a worried-looking black child and the words BLACK CHILDREN ARE IN DANGER TOO MANY ABORTED in block letters. Those signs, like the two in La Crosse, were also erected with help from out-of-state anti-abortion organizations.
