Superintendent says Texas' Schools Abstinence Only program failure really the parents fault.

Yes, the headline is funny enough, but what the superintendent said is so pathetic, that I had to post it here. You have to wonder why the schools have sex ed classes when it now appears to be the parents responsibility:

“We do have an abstinence curriculum, and that evidently ain’t working,” superintendent Jim Rumage told the TV station. “We need to do all we can, although it’s the parents’ responsibility to educate their kids on sexual education.”

Scary Mary Lazich Wipes out Sex Ed for more “Local control.” What a sick prude.

Sen. Mary Lazich can’t leave well enough alone when it comes to teen pregnancy and sex ed in our schools. Like everything else passed in the previous Democratic administration, its gone :

One look at this sexually introverted wacko tells the whole story. See that expression? She was pushing her bizarre “Women’s Protection Act,” where politicians would make sure doctors didn’t harm their patients. Creepy. 

Its chief sponsor, Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin), said her proposal would give school districts more of a say in writing their curricula.

"This is about small government at its best," she said. "This is about local control."

So it has nothing to do with sex ed?

The topics Lazich's bills recommend would not include birth control, though schools could choose to teach about that on their own.

But the proof will be sadly borne out by the young girls Lazich will never have to see, and taxpayers. What a plan. So let’s see how this plays out:

Democrats noted Milwaukee's teen birthrate dropped after the city and the United Way of Greater Milwaukee launched a 2008 program that teaches young people about both abstinence and contraception. The city's birthrate dropped from 52 per 1,000 teens in 2006 to 35.7 per 1,000 in 2010. 

Just another law to repeal when the Democrats come back in to clean up the GOP mess.

Republican Sen. Galloway Proposes State Requirement for Abstinence Only as a way to bring back "Local Control?"

Thank god the Republican legislature is all about “local control.”

That’s what almost every argument starts with when it comes to ditching current policy with one size fits all big government Republican policy. Tell me if this is really what Sen. Pam Galloway calls going back to local control:

Republican state Sen. Mary Lazich and Sen. Pam Galloway would roll back an existing state law that prohibits school districts from teaching abstinence-only sex education programs. Galloway said the new bill is intended to give control over curriculum back to local school boards. "The Healthy Youth Act was a one-size-fits-all approach," Galloway said.

So here’s the upside down, inside out, down the rabbit hole, through the looking glass supposed return to local control, as envisioned by big government Republicans (hint: notice the word “requires”):

The new bill requires districts that opt to provide sex education to present abstinence as the only sure way to prevent pregnancy or STDs. Schools could opt to provide information about birth control.

That’s local? A state mandate by Republicans to require abstinence only in sex ed., is not a one size fits all approach? So Galloway and Lazich want to change the current approach that allows schools to include abstinence as an option, which they do anyway, while providing a broader curriculum. Brilliant!
