Republican are saying America can't stop the Mass Shootings!!!

It's unsettling to know the truth now about the Republican Party's disinterest in trying to stop the gun carnage sweeping the U.S.. The community college in Roseburg, Oregon is just the latest.

Their outrageously ridiculous, but widely accepted solution - getting tough on mental illness - never materialized. Now, they're not even bothering to offer any hope at all.

In the WPR Joy Cardin radio interview below, Steve Prestegard, conservative editor of the Platteville Journal, said outright there is nothing we can do to stop these mass shootings, so why try. This echoes Carly Fiorina's throw-in-the-towel attitude about climate change. Majority Republicans no longer have to struggle for excuses, or even feign concerned anymore.

That's American exceptionalism? That's that can-do attitude from the worlds superpower?

John Nichols counters Prestegard's shocking surrender with hope and determination that something can be done. Nothing exemplifies Republican politics today like the sharp contrasting discussion below:



UPDATE: This is now a national Republican trend. The days of pretending to help the public are over. Let's start with my favorite "solution" from Scott Walker:

Huffington Post: According to Everytown for Gun Safety, a group pushing for reforms to reduce gun violence, (said) it was the 45th shooting at a school in 2015. Everytown was formed in the wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary ... There have been 142 shootings at schools since December 14, 2012, the date of that incident.

Republicans are not only content to let the gun carnage continue, but they are already letting people die by taking away their health care:

The cliched partisans whining of conservative public radio pundit Steve Prestegard knows no bounds.

As a former radio guy myself, I never could understand how Prestegard became the go to guy for analysis. While getting factual details wrong, Prestegard takes the easy way out by bashing liberal caricatures doing fictional things that conveniently help make his case.

He even blames Hillary Clinton for their interest in the emails and...Walker's misdeeds and 6 arrests?

Oh yea, it's also unfair for "the court of public opinion" to know just who their governor really is. And never-mind about the probable behind the scenes conversations, office talk, backroom discussions exemplified in those racist trash talking emails. It just doesn't happen?

Rationalization: In full panic mode, Prestegard spins, dodges and rambles on about how Scott Walker never broke the law, leaving out the general disdain Walker's office had for everyone else.

Short and sweet, this edited audio from WPR's Joy Cardin Show, is embarrassing stuff, but also a funny example of "bubble talk:"

Listen to the embarrassing stereotype. This was a great moment in radio this morning on WPR’s Joy Cardin program, where guest Steve Prestegard plays the conservative caricature for laughs, I would assume.

Christine Bremer (BREE-mur)-Muggli (MOO-glee), attorney with Bremer & Trollop Law Offices in Wausau and a presidential elector, had all the right answers, good answers. Democrats should learn from her.

Steve Prestegard is described as a “journalist?” Okay, then I am too. He also blogs like me, which means he must be a genius. I will deal with each subject separately, with great answers from both sides...it’s just that Steve had nothing but outright clichés with shades of envy.

First we have a clip of Scott Walker in Iowa, spouting absolute nonsense about getting jobs via losing food stamps. You won't believe this...:

“…you might imagine what they said in Madison. Uhh, the governor hates poor people, he’s making harder to get government assistance. I pushed back right away and said I’m not making it harder to get em assistance, I love the people in my state so much, I’m making it easier to get a job.”

He’s making it easier to get food stamps by taking food away? We're near last in the country for jobs. Brilliantly deceptive. Prestegard loved the idea, based purely on envy. Like all conservative control freaks, “this is a popular notion,” where assistance is money out of their pocket. But they forget when the poor had jobs, they too paid for others peoples food stamps. So why the outrage? Freeloading Republicans hate it when others get something for nothing, especially those with nothing. An appalled Christine Bremer responded by saying it was mean spirited and costly, $16 million taxpayer dollars, and that Walker’s just shifty blame for the state’s bad economy to the poor. True on all counts:



Rent to Own: Prestegard doesn’t believe government should protect the poor from predators. He assumes everyone knows basic math, and should avoid rent to own “like the plague.” If they’re that bad, why allow them or at the least deregulate them? Lunacy. Christine smokes the clueless Prestegard:



Double Dipping: Prestegard assumes public employee pay is always taxpayer money, never theirs. It’s like someone in the private sector not really owning the money they earn, and are told by their employer how to spend it. If Prestegard thinks that’s true, why can’t taxpayers tell legislators how to eat and what they can do in their free time…with our money?
