Choose Life License Plate funds going to John Doe Target "Choose Life Wisconsin!"

The Walker Authority is fully behind the so called "pro-life" groups that are surprisingly quiet on the pro-life health care for all movement. The rampant cronyism fostered by our statewide one party Republican authority is unapologetic now, even after getting caught trying to slip $500,000 to a Koch brothers pro-hunting outdoors front group. 

The GOP's next payoff is going to the anti-abortion/anti-gay lobbyist group Choose Life Wisconsin, who's latest scheme is to profit from a "Choose Life" license plate. It's a blatant payoff because Republicans will reject outright the Democratic proposal for a plate supporting Planned Parenthood. From WKOW:

Shepherd Express: The Republican-dominated state Assembly voted to allow the sale of “Choose Life” license plates to fund spurious crisis pregnancy centers that aim to persuade women not to even think about getting an abortion. There’s more to the story, of course.

The conduit between license-buyers and the centers is the nonprofit group Choose Life Wisconsin Inc., which is registered to Wisconsin Family Action’s Julaine Appling.

During the Doyle years, Appling’s group was the main driver of the constitutional ban on gay marriage. Wisconsin Family Action even went to the state Supreme Court earlier this year to argue against the state’s domestic partnership registry, saying it’s too close to marriage for its liking. But that’s not all.

Wisconsin Family Action appeared in last week’s Wall Street Journal report on the new John Doe investigation. Seems that Appling’s group is among the 29 conservative issue groups that are being scrutinized by special prosecutor Francis Schmitz.

During the 2011 recalls, the Wisconsin chapter of the Koch brothers’ Americans for Prosperity sent out phony absentee ballot applications. Why were they phony? The return address was Wisconsin Family Action’s offices, although Appling denied having anything to do with them.

The Center for Media and Democracy noted that 90% of Wisconsin Family Action’s $1 million in grants in 2011 came from the phony issue group Citizens for a Strong America. Citizens for a Strong America, in turn, received almost all of its funding from the deep-pocketed Wisconsin Club for Growth.

Which other group received funding from Citizens for a Strong America? The dubious United Sportsmen of Wisconsin, which also sent out phony absentee ballot applications during the 2011 recalls, although it didn’t send them to Wisconsin Family Action’s offices. (They went to a dead post office box.) Earlier this year, United Sportsmen received a $500,000 grant from the Republican-led Legislature in a late-night vote on the state budget but lost it when its political and Koch connections were revealed.

Now, like United Sportsmen, Wisconsin Family Action’s Appling is set to receive boatloads of Republican-enabled money into her new nonprofit group.

Julaine Appling, of the right wing fringe group Wisconsin Family Action, continues her homophobic agenda in the name of protecting marriage, even though she promised the constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage would not effect domestic partnerships.

I have to remind readers that Republicans are on the verge of approving a "choose life" license plate, where the funding would go to Appling and a fellow nutjob to promote their extremist agenda. You have to keep reminding yourself we're still in Wisconsin.

Appling admits she's taking her domestic partnership reversal to the state supreme court because it's dominated by conservative activist justices, not like those socialist liberal Dane County judges who just don't see it her way.

Appling: "Quite honestly, Branch 4 of the Court of Appeals, and the Dane County Circuit Court are hardly...um...branches of our judiciary that would be in sympathy with us."  

It funny how conservatives can get away with such outward support of conservative judicial activism when they're the biggest whiners about liberal activism. Doesn't anyone care to ask them why? From WISC News:

Tea Party takes Control of Wisconsin Public Education, Leads Walker Legislature around by the Nose.

Shocking and sad to say, the tea party dummies are now taking control of our state government and our kids education.

After watching WISC's coverage, your heart will sink knowing the tea party is behind the attack on Common Core, or as they call it, ObamaCore. The Obama administration had nothing to do with the development of Common Core, but have encouraged its use and the higher standards they promise.

Higher standards? Hold on there, not on the tea party's watch.

See one Republican legislator after the other show a complete lack of understanding when it comes to the program itself. Before this hearing, you would have thought these guys would have done some basic research, anything at all, so they could ask informed questions. Not a chance. Instead, all the questions centered on tea party conspiracies and fears.

Odder still, the fringe right-to-life anti-abortion group Wisconsin Family Action's Julaine Appling appeared as a witness against Common Core. Why...I can't explain why. She made the wild claim the state could come up with its own plan, apparently without costly taxpayers funding and without research or the consultation of professional educators. By the way, Republicans are about to give Appling's group a license plate and part of the fee as payback for their support. Nothing too obvious there, huh?

Common Core will be dead soon, and it'll be hard to watch this dumbing down happen in Wisconsin. We were never like this. I get to see first hand the results of tea party meddling from my own kids, and that's what really pisses me off this time.

Republicans propose state help to fund Fringe Anti-Choice Lobbyists and Donors with Bizarre License Plate.

Without hesitation, as if the United Sportsmen debacle never happened, state Republicans are now trying to fund "right to life" lobbyists through the purchase of a state vehicle license plate.

Not only that, this "right to life" organization is brand new (like United Sportsmen), headed up by the leaders of two right wing fringe groups; Wisconsin Family Action's Julaine Appling, and Pro-Life Wisconsin's Matt Sande. These extremists will take charge of the 35 anti-abortion "pregnancy crisis centers" that have already been exposed as zealot hardliners, providing medically inaccurate information, like....

Onion story or actual GOP proposal? 

...birth control pills cause breast cancer, condoms don't work, possible "post-abortion syndrome,"  psychological damage from abortions, and the fabricated link between abortions and breast cancer. And abortions? Not an option.

Unapologetic Republicans see nothing wrong with, or hypocritical about, the state helping anti-abortion fringe groups with an almost comically divisive license plate featuring a baby's footprint, after over-regulating and defunding Planned Parenthood for its own right to life agenda of choice.

From the ultra conservative twisted mind of Rep. Andre Jacque, who never met a tea party talking point he didn't want to turn into law, came up with this insulting proposal: 

Funds from the license plate would go to Choose Life Wisconsin, a new group that has applied for nonprofit status. The organization is headed by the leaders of two other pro-life advocacy groups.

“Sweetheart funneling of funds to an unaccountable, brand-new, non-charitable organization funded by people with a history of political only interests,” said Nora Cusack, treasurer of Women’s Medical Fund Inc., about Choose Life Wisconsin.

That's right, there are no strings attached, these lobbyists get the money to do what they want with the help of the state's majority party.

With no apparent knowledge of the work hypocrisy, "right to life" warriors like Rep. Jacque is surprised anyone would attack providers of free health services for women (Planned Parenthood guys?):

“I’m really saddened that you’d try to make an attack on organizations that do provide free services to women, that are volunteer-driven, that are in every corner of the state,” said Jacque.

One Democrat pointed out the obvious:

“I’m mystified that that’s something we want to do. We've seen enough division in the state already,” said Rep. Chris Danou, D-Trempealeau. “To put something that’s this divisive onto a state-issued plate, quite frankly, is in bad taste.”

Not when you have a gerrymandered super majority one party system.

The medically based organization Planned Parenthood had too much to offer, and a long history success. The only real lobbying they had to do was in defense of their services. A license plate to fund this well established organization? Almost:

Cap Times: Rep. Chris Taylor, D-Madison, and Rep. JoCasta Zamarripa, D-Milwaukee, introduced a bill in February of 2012 that would have allowed for the sale of a Planned Parenthood license plate. The bill went nowhere in the Republican-controlled legislature. Taylor said she may introduce it again.

The Republican-controlled legislature defunded the state’s family planning fund. The move led to the closure of four Planned Parenthood clinics. The clinics did not provide abortions, but other reproductive health care needs such as cancer screenings and birth control.

Bigoted Wisconsin Family Action takes aim at Paul Ryan, and other peoples First Amendment Rights.

How can one group make marriage sound so horrible?

When Paul Ryan came out for gay adoption the other day, you could just hear the Old Testament profanities streaming out of the offices of Wisconsin Family Action. And like their name suggests, these idolaters sprang into…action.

Thinking they had some legitimate point to make, this groups self-righteous purveyor of God’s word and president Julaine Appling, fired off a list of intimidating finger wagging questions for Ryan to answer. Sadly, responding to this hate group would only legitimize their embarrassing existence. Here’s the big “push” question to Ryan that certainly makes their biased point:

“Whether his own family experience and the overwhelming body of research on this subject is what he believes or if he has fallen prey to political pressure and ‘political correctness.’”

Appling is of course promoting her own extremist version of political correctness, which she would happily force on every American by writing it into the Constitution. Here's WKOW's coverage:

Appling's own repressed feelings may also be a source of her strength. What else could drive her bigoted, subservient and unconstitutional agenda to the wall. Wisconsin Family Action would do away with privacy, and force their religious dogma onto everyone else. Her audience of low information cultists loves the message.

I put together a group of audio clips proving my point, from their own "Family Minute" comments. Remember the 8th grade crossword puzzle that said conservatism "restricts personal freedom?" Appling went nuts, but then proved the crossword puzzles point with her morally restrictive doctrine.

Personhood for a fertilized egg? Sure. But offer lifesaving health care for that “person” once they take their first breath (the actual "personhood" standard set by God in Genesis), forget it.
  

Appling and her doctrine of conservative authoritarianism has battered the institution of marriage, making it into something suffocating and misogynistic.
