#OregonUnderAttack busts myth of the Responsible Gun Owner!!!

Nice timing from our “responsible” Republican gun owners.

Obama's plan doesn't really do that much, so why all the outrage? The goal is to have no gun laws. Gun advocates once said once they supported regulations already on the books so they could pass concealed carry. Now they want to kill those laws.

"The point of a gun is the only law..." It's a line out of the song "The man who shot Liberty Valance," describing where we are today, and the growing movement behind it. If you don't carry a gun, you're a wimp and soft target. If you carry a gun it means people will listen, obey and be careful around you, promoting a more agreeable and peaceful society.

#OregonUnderAttack is a growing movement of justifiable lawlessness, using small government as an excuse to destroy what's left completely. I just grabbed this report from who else, Fox News, and it should actually clear things up. The guys the militia is trying to stand up for don't want their help:

On Saturday, a large group of armed militia members took over a federal building in rural Oregon, claiming the property to protest the conviction of two local ranchers found guilty of setting fire to government land. The protesters — many of whom openly brandish firearms — say they are “planning on staying…for years,” and have not ruled out violently defending themselves against any attempt to expel them.

Fires spread to public land to conceal poaching: Here’s the insane reason for the armed uprising:
Prosecutors said the fire was set to hide poaching, but the ranchers, who face five years in prison, and the protesters supporting them say it was set to stop invasive plants. The father and son, Dwight Hammond Jr. and Steven Hammond, respectively 73 and 46 … lit several fires from the late 1990s onwards to promote the growth of grass for their cattle, but in 1999, 2001 and 2006, the fires spread on to neighboring public land in the Malheur wildlife refuge. The two were convicted of arson three years ago and served time – Dwight Hammond three months, and his son a year. A judge ruled subsequently that their terms had been too short under federal law and ordered them back to prison for about four years each … they plan to abide by a court ruling that they return to prison on Monday
Peaceful and agreeable…until they're not, and decide some laws don’t apply to them:
Three of the group’s leaders are sons of Cliven Bundy, a Nevada rancher who triggered an armed standoff with government forces in 2014 for refusing to remove cattle from federal land … many see the current occupation as a continuation of an anti-government movement Bundy started in 2014. None of the Republican presidential candidates have weighed in on the rapidly escalating situation,

Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward told people to stay away from the building as authorities work to defuse the situation, the Oregonian reported. On his Facebook page Ammon Bundy said “this is not a time to stand down. It’s a time to stand up and come to Harney County.” "ALL PATRIOTS ITS TIME TO STAND UP NOT STAND DOWN!!! WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! COME PREPARED," he wrote. “This facility is owned by the people, and so if they come to bring physical harm to us, then they will be doing it only because of a facility, or a building. And I don’t believe that warrants killing people.”
Of course endangering the public with wild fires and burning public land is no big deal, especially when you come from a good looking family like this one. Believe it or not, that's their argument:

Not surprisingly, the gun crowd doesn't like to be threatened back. Despite similar threats made by the armed militia members now occupying the federally owned building, "come prepared," the tweet below gets the clueless right wing treatment. (not one of the articles has described the legal policy dealing with this situation):

Shocker: Tea Party "American Spring" Failed to overthrow Obama Administration.

It was just a few years ago tea party losers were disrupting town halls, preventing our elected officials from addressing a multitude of issues. Today, they want to throw the bums out, the ones that don't think like them.

The way I see it, the tea party movement is just getting started, working out the kinks. Perhaps their overblown expectations of leading their own "American spring" will jolt them into reality. Are you kidding. Those poor trolls...how will they ever explain this one.

Dealing with the delusional, reporter Jon Ralston summed this movement, from Cliven Bundy to the American spring with Rachel Maddow:

See the pictures of this debacle. You know I won't let them forget this one:

Wonkette: America, your long national nightmare is almost over! As predicted, tens of millions of protesters have flooded into Washington DC, bringing the city to a halt and trapping the illegal so-called “leaders” of the illegitimate, unconstitutional “government” inside the walls of their marble fortresses — but only temporarily, as they will surely hear the call of We The People and step down in disgrace.

That’s what WND’s lede would have read if more than a few hundred teabagger loons had shown up for the big Depose Obama Rally scheduled for Friday. As it was, the brave coup leaders stood around and got rained on for a while before the weather cleared and they marched around some. But Obama still might resign in disgrace, just as soon as the other ten million or so demonstrators arrive later this weekend.

So far, we haven’t seen any definitive reports, but Wonkette Operative Princess Sparkle Pony sent along the above photo of a group of demonstrators filling not quite filling the National Mall in front of the Air and Space Museum, which seems like a pretty smart location to protect from drone attacks, since it’s a pretty good bet the Out Of Control Federal Government wouldn’t risk accidentally blowing up the Wright Flyer. There’s also this screengrab of a video from Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children (get it? USMC? So EDGY! So fetch!), showing an indeterminate number of people — we’re guessing between 3 and 17 million, it’s hard to say — milling around the Washington Monument.

RightWingWatch blogger Bryan Tashman has been tweeting some other images of the throngs.

Western State's Hero Cliven Bundy prompts Political Leaders to take Federal Land Back.

Cliven Bundy is a freeloader, racist and all around embarrassment. He’s attracted anti-government armed militia groups who literally aim their guns at law enforcement so Bundy could feed his cattle for free. Bundy has rightfully been criticized by both sides, for obvious reasons.

But a surreal movement of conservative political leaders has remarkably found a voice in Bundy, and are apologetically planning to exploit it.
sltrib: It’s time for Western states to take control of federal lands within their borders, lawmakers and county commissioners from Western states said at Utah’s Capitol on Friday.

More than 50 political leaders from nine states convened for the first time to talk about their joint goal: wresting control of oil-, timber -and mineral-rich lands away from the feds.

Utah House Speaker Becky Lockhart, R-Provo, said "What’s happened in Nevada is really just a symptom of a much larger problem."
It is? More ranchers should freeload? Or maybe they should pay much higher grazing fees charged by the states. This is political opportunism at its most crass.

Realistically, this would be a repeal of Teddy Roosevelt's Antiquities Act, a bold environmental step that saved our most pristine area's of the country for you and me. We are now part of the extended Cliven Bundy family?

At the same time Republicans are complaining about the BLM’s overreaching policies, the GOP in D.C. has purposely underfunded the agency, making it incapable of doing its job. See, government is bad. While the states want to take control of federal land, they've done next to nothing to inspect and regulate against water contamination and environmental damage. They want to leave it up to an underfunded BLM (noted in bold below) and blame them any problems:
The government has failed to inspect thousands of oil and gas wells it considers potentially high risks for water contamination and other environmental damage, congressional investigators say. The findings from the Government Accountability Office come amid an energy boom in the country and the increasing use of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.

The report makes clear in many instances that the BLM’s failure to inspect high-priority oil and gas wells is due to limited money and staff. The BLM has developed agreements with some states, which also have jurisdiction over well inspections on federal lands. According to the GAO, it had reached agreements with regulators in California, Colorado, Nevada and Wyoming.

Sheriff Clarke, proud and humble friend of former Sheriff who wanted women as human shields in Bundy face-off.

It would seem only fitting that the most unqualified right wing sheriffs in Wisconsin, Milwaukee's David Clarke, received his just deserts for hitching his wagon to a bunch of anti-government zealots.
He must be a great judge of character. Poor guy is speechless too.
jsonline-Dan Bice: The typically loquacious Clarke has not responded to requests for comment on the situation and the organization that has called him a "modern-day hero."

Victimized again?

Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke is coming under criticism from his campaign opponent for his close ties to a fringe group that sided with Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy in his face-off with federal officials. In fact, the head of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association — which named Clarke as the sheriff of the year for 2013 — even went so far as to suggest in two interviews that Bundy's allies use women and children as human shields in case "rogue" federal agents opened fire during the dispute.
He's Clarke and he' Proud:
Last year, Clarke said he was "extremely proud and humbled" for the award from the group, which seeks to organize sheriffs against the "tyranny" of the federal government. He touted the honor in a county press release and on his Facebook page. Clarke told the organization  that it had a "friend for life."
I'm still amazed Clarke has never been held accountable for his bizarre behavior, that includes providing minimal security for an Obama visit to Milwaukee, disguised campaign releases made to look like public service announcements, advice the public not to count on 911 so he could promote gun ownership, discontinuing early release, defying county budgetary reductions and actually guest hosting a conservative radio talk show. Nice nonpartisan job.

He's a crazy man with a gun.

Paul Ryan Compared to Cliven Bundy!!! All that's different is the accent.

At the end of a fairly long "Final look at Cliven Bundy" video I pieced together the other day was the clip featured below.

Conservative "liberal media bias" watchdog Newsbusters wrote this:
On the Thursday, April 24, All In with Chris Hayes, during a discussion of racist comments about black Americans by Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, MSNBC political analyst Michael Eric Dyson compared those words to a recent statement by Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan about the work ethic in the inner cities.
Here's Dyson's comment:

Since it's now gotten the attention of the conservative wackos at Newsbusters, I thought we could review Micheal Eric Dyson's on the money comparison between Paul Ryan's recent comment...
"...tailspin of culture, in our inner cities in particular, of men not working and just generations of men not even thinking about working or learning to value the culture of work."
...to Cliven Bundy's comments...
"I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro … and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids - and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch - they didn't have nothing to do. They didn't have nothing for their kids to do. They didn't have nothing for their young girls to do.

And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I've often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn't get no more freedom. They got less freedom."

A Final look at Cliven Bundy...

This is the Cliven Bundy so many tea party Republicans and Fox News hitched their wagon too:
"I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro," he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, "and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids - and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch - they didn't have nothing to do. They didn't have nothing for their kids to do. They didn't have nothing for their young girls to do.

"And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I've often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn't get no more freedom. They got less freedom."
I put together this compilation that should be the final chapter to this ugly story. Thanks to the Ed Show and All In with Chris Hayes:

And if you were wondering, here's how the gun came out against the federal government, thanks to Vox:
On Saturday, April 5, the Bureau of Land Management began confiscating the cattle Cliven Bundy had grazing on federal land. The BLM did so under authority given by a Nevada federal district court judge, and it planned to auction off the cattle later on. To carry out the operation, the BLM brought in armed federal agents and private contractors, and closed down much of the federal land in the area, restricting entry: Over a hundred cattle were confiscated that first weekend, and Bundy's son Dave was arrested for refusing to leave the temporarily closed federal lands.

So Sunday night, Bundy posted a message on the Bundy Ranch website: "They have my cattle and now they have one of my boys. Range War begins tomorrow." Protesters assembled over the next few days, and confrontations between Bundy's supporters and the BLM began to grow more heated.

Sean Hannity's support of Freeloader and Racist Cliven Bundy gets Skewered.

If you missed this take down of Sean Hannity, here it is from John Fugelsang:
“Sean Hannity’s standing up for a lawless, socialist welfare queen,” Fugelsang said. “Sean Hannity has one job: to keep people who were wrong about everything for the last 20 years thinking they’ve been right about everything. His show is like an IV drip for denial for the ‘get off my lawn’ demographic.”

Here's Jon Stewart's bit:

Cliven Bundy: Biggest Tea Party Freeloader!!!

Really, CLIVEN BUNDY! What a perfect name for a freeloading Nevada rancher who refused to pay a grazing fee to the fed for the last 20 years. He doesn't even recognize the federal government, who he calls a trespasser, and "a foreign government."

An armed militia even showed up to defend Bundy. But they're not unpatriotic Americans are they? The Bundy clan see themselves as the victims of a despotic government. You know, the kind of despotic government one of the Bundy brothers described this way:
"...with these agencies making these codes and saying there law. And then they've got law enforcement, and judges, and prisons, and courts, and everything to enforce those laws...when none of them have been legislated, and they're all unconstitutional."
Even my conservative friend in Milwaukee thinks Bundy is wrong.

My favorite is the militia guy who came up with the idea of sacrificing the women first:
"We were actually strategizing to put all the women up at the front. If they're going to start shooting, it's going to be women that are going to be televised across the world getting shot by these rogue federal officers."
Now that's courage. But this stuff is so priceless, I couldn't resist including this Sean Hannity interview with Cliven Bundy. What a meeting of...the minds?

It's so nice to see cattle saved...just to be slaughtered later. "Take the federal bureaucrats guns away," says Bundy.

Just as good, MSNBC's Chris Hayes got the real insiders story from Nevada reporter Jon Ralston:

Fox News: Federal land managers backed down in a weekend standoff with Bundy after hundreds of states' rights protesters, including armed militia members, showed up to protest federal officials seizing his cattle. Some protesters had their guns drawn and pointed toward law enforcement, some of whom were also armed, on the scene -- ultimately, no shots were fired and the Bureau of Land Management reported that officials left over safety concerns. Bundy owes more than $1.1 million in unpaid grazing fees. BLM long ago revoked Bundy's grazing rights on that land ... Bundy, though, claimed ancestral rights to the land.
