Right Wing Campus Speaker Disruptions and Free Speech Laws all part of the Plan.

I never understood this whole shouting down guest speakers on campus thing. A more effective approach would include groaning, laughing or holding a sign in the audience. And since this has been going on for decades, right wing authoritarians who are now in charge of every branch of state government, found an opening to strike back.

Nationwide Republicans are slowly taking over public colleges, booking conservative guests, playing the victim of the now vilified liberal educators, and writing a regime of campus censorship laws that turns actual free speech into a punishable offense.

Rep. Jesse Kremer, of Kewaskum, said in a May 11 legislative hearing that it was a fact that Earth was 6,000 years old. Kremer sits on the Assembly’s universities committee, which votes on bills affecting the state’s colleges and universities … the blowback he's received for his beliefs demonstrates the need for legislation regulating speech on college campuses ... he released a statement on Thursday accusing the "elitist media" of "losing their minds over someone with a different opinion." Kremer said the "left's unhinged attacks" on his perspective — which he said included death threats and profanity-laden messages — demonstrated the need for his legislation, which he says would protect speech by punishing protesters who shout down controversial speakers. Critics of the legislation say it could favor speakers' rights over protesters.

Dave Vanness, an associate professor of population health sciences and past-president of the UW-Madison chapter of American Association of University Professors, said: "Faculty have an obligation to respect students' rights to expression; they are under no obligation to treat all beliefs as equally valid," Vanness tweeted.

The new crop of bills is broadly based on a model designed by the Goldwater Institute, a conservative think tank: punish students who take part in disruptive protests; requires universities to launch an investigation and hold discipline hearings if they get two or more complaints alleging someone violated the policy; System institutions must “strive to remain neutral” on public policy controversies.

Right Wing Authoritarians Ultimate Takeover Scheme: These aren’t just random invites, they’re carefully planned events to poison thepublic on colleges in general, while turning them into institutes of right wing indoctrination. That’s right, after years of accusing colleges of liberal indoctrination, it turns out it was just another extreme example of projection: 

(Conservative speakers) Ben Shapiro and Steve Forbes were invited to campus by the UW-Madison chapter of Young Americans for Freedom, an affiliate of a national student organization attracting attention for its success in placing conservative speakers on college campuses.

The national organization, armed with a $16 million bequest from a California orthodontist, has doubled its programming, including campus speeches, over the past two years, the New York Times reported. This past academic year, the organization helped put 111 speakers on 77 campuses, including what the Times called “heat-seeking” speakers.

And while this insidious plan rolls out, duped conservative voters will once again make fun of liberals blaming the Koch brothers for everything…oh wait: 

The foundation helps pay for speakers, trains student event organizers and provides promotional materials as part of its mission of grooming future conservative leaders, the Times said. Funders include billionaire brothers David H. and Charles G. Koch, and the Amway billionaires Richard and Helen DeVos, although Betsy DeVos, their daughter-in-law and secretary of education, is not a donor, the group says. 

And Republicans say they're working hard to save you money...except when they don't? Not only did Ben Shapiro's legend grow along with his speaking fees and book sales, he's getting you to foot the bill:

Marc Lovicott, spokesman for the UW-Madison Police Department, said this week that YAF had not paid a $450.08 bill for security at the Shapiro event. That amount reflected the typical cost of security for a campus speaker, Lovicott said, not the $4,938.47 actual cost of services to the event, for which the department beefed up its coverage.

“After they were billed, the group informed us via email that they did not plan on paying. They said they could not afford it, and they didn’t feel they were liable for security costs,” Lovicott said in an email.

Republican's Ann Coulter Law attacks Free Speech on Campuses, Threatens Student Expulsion part 1

This is part 1 of two related stories. Actually, I forgot to post the story below last week, so everything has changed a little; Ann Coulter is not making a speaking appearance, but may just show up anyway to soak in the adoration of drooling fans.

Remember the violent student protest when Breitbart News senior editor Milo Yiannopoulos spoke at Berkelely? I personally don't think right wing celebrities should be prevented from making themselves look like the paranoid racist bigots they are.

The thing is, Republicans have made it a badge of honor to be banned, or “dis-invited,” by university campuses due to “security concerns.” Those poor conservative victims, always under threat by anti-gun, latte drinking environmental peaceniks, cruising around in their Prius'. Sad.

The University of California at Berkeley appears headed for a showdown with right-wing commentator Ann Coulter after her planned appearance at the school was canceled over security concerns.

You can thank "Academic Bill of Rights" fanatic David Horowitz for drumming up the fear level for all conservative speakers thinking about risking their lives on our nations college campuses.

The David Horowitz Freedom Center combats the efforts of the radical left and its Islamist allies to destroy American values and disarm this country as it attempts to defend itself in a time of terror.

College Republicans apparently think Horowitz bravery and message is reasonable and not the least bit paranoid:

Horowitz said (about the Berkeley protests), "I can't go to campuses without bodyguards. They all need to be prosecuted. Sure, defund them – make them pay," Horowitz said, referring to President Donald Trump's response to the mayhem. "They are fascists. Throw them in jail. That's where they belong. This is an administration under siege." 

"We have a seditious democratic party that is destroying the American electoral system. We have actresses calling for a military coup, we have Democrats sabotaging an incoming administration, and a State Department leaking presidential conversations. It's a mess."

Poor millionaire and Russian backed illegitimate President Donald Trump. 

Academic Freedom for Alt-right Nationalism, or just Alternative Facts? According to the AAUP, the American Association of University Professors, the...

...right of "access to a broad range of serious scholarly opinion" ... states that institutions should foster a "plurality of serious scholarly methodologies and perspectives." The problem, according to the AAUP Statement, is that "it invites diversity to be measured by political standards that diverge from the academic criteria of the scholarly profession. Measured in this way, diversity can easily become contradictory to academic ends."

In other words, fantasy/myth/fake news/right wing echo chamber politics is the new reality, and more importantly, a debatable equal to actual facts.

Ann Coulter Canceled: Now the sh** hit has the fan again, this time over Ann Coulter's invitation and cancellation:

The University of California-Berkeley cancelled conservative author Ann Coulter's upcoming speech on grounds that the police could not guarantee her safety.

But what is not getting the news coverage was Coulter's own whack-a-doodle dictatorial demand:

Some have criticized Coulter's own approach to the issue: she demanded that the university expel any student who engages "in violence, mayhem or heckling to prevent an invited speaker from speaking." 

Coulter would expel students for daring to interrupt her political brilliance?  Heckling too?

Oh, and Berkeley wasn't the one who cancelled "Academic Bill of Right's" lunatic David Horowitz from appearing this month either:

College Republicans say they were forced to cancel a conservative speaker (Horowitz) because of too many administration roadblocks.

Suddenly, Republicans don't like those greatly expanded Bush "free speech zones" when it effects them.

The idea that Republicans have principles is laughable. This newer, more radicalized party's one goal now, is to win their politically motivated game. Nothing else. Forget public policy. Principles, what principles?

Which brings me to those old George W. Bush "free speech zones" they loved so much. And it makes sense too, because conservatives have hated the right to protest for years. It's an ongoing battle to finally "win" the 60's anti-war/civil rights protests.

Many universities created on-campus free speech zones during the 1960s and 1970s, during which protests on-campus (especially against the Vietnam War) were common. 

It was during Bush's presidency that their scope was greatly expanded. The Bush administration has been criticized by columnist James Bovard of The American Conservative for requiring protesters to stay within a designated area, while allowing supporters access to more areas.

The American Civil Liberties Union has asked a federal court in Washington D.C. to prevent the Secret Service from keeping anti-Bush protesters distant from presidential appearances while allowing supporters to display their messages up close, where they are likely to be seen by the news media. 

Now that "free speech zones" appear to be blowing back on libertarian/conservative protesters, the right wing outrage has begun...like this from radio bullshit artist Vicki McKenna, in her "you've got to be kidding me" Facebook moment:
