Florida Republican Economy Suffers Sharpest Decline, Recession, In 16 Years.

I love it. I mentioned a few times here that I would love to have Texas and Florida do everything their Republican legislatures and governors want to do, just so we can see what conservative economics will do to their states. One down, one to go.

Business Week says: Economists from the Wachovia Economics Group said that Florida is officially in a recession. Wachovia analysts said Florida's economy declined at its sharpest rate in 16 years during 2008's second quarter. Analysts predict that the state will bottom out late this year or in early 2009.

The Ledger wrote: Obama said Florida is facing its first recession in 16 years, and it happened while a Republican administration was on the watch. "The last recession in Florida ended with the election of a Democrat," Obama said. He was referring to the election of Bill Clinton in 1992. "We need to assure people that they will have health care, college access and affordable housing."

The Tampa Bay Business Journal puts it this way: The last time the state’s economy underperformed the nation was during the 1990-1991 recession and the 1973-75 downturn prior to that. Soaring property taxes and battles over congestion and growth management also have taken a toll.

All under Republican control. Soaring property taxes and poor growth management that has created commuting nightmares. Need we Democrats say more?
