Walker's Legacy: His destructive politicization of the State Supreme Court may live on with Kelly.

Scott Walker wrote a guest editorial defending his partisan pick on the State Supreme Court with this mind-numbing brilliance:
"Justice Dan Kelly believes in the rule of law."

An amazing statement coming from an elite member of the Trump cult, where the "rule of law" has turned into a "ruling lawless" President.

Walker is a constitutional originalist, meaning whatever changes came later were just an interpretation of "the Constitution with 'today in mind.'"
"Dane County Judge Jill Karofsky ... is open about her progressive politics...she would interpret the Constitution with “today in mind,” instead of upholding what it actually says.
Second Amendment Fantasy: Walker's world imagines law in ways Republicans think they should be, shaping policy around utter fantasy, like the Second Amendment:
Karofsky called for gun control measures and said the Constitution allows limiting the possession of firearms.
Walker is wrong of course, purposely, because iconic conservative idol Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia wrote exactly the opposite in District of Columbia v. Heller, something Walker has conveniently imagined away or never cared to read
In Justice Scalia’s words, it is “not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.

[l]ike most rights, … is not unlimited. Although we do not undertake an exhaustive historical analysis today of the full scope of the Second Amendment, nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms."
Justice Dan Kelly is NOT open about his conservative politics? Walker brands Judge Jill Karofsky as "open about her progressive politics," which must mean Supreme Court Justice Dan Kelly is not. Wow, that's not true either:

1. Justice Kelly, who calls himself a judicial conservative.

2. Appointed to the high court in 2016 by former Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

3. Kelly helped "the GOP advance partisan gerrymandered voting districts

4. Kelly wrote a conservative blog praising Walker’s union restrictions and criticizing the “socialism/same-sex marriage/recreational marijuana/tax increase crowd.”

5. "Kelly held a fundraiser at a firing range the day after a mass shooting at a Milwaukee brewery. His campaign had posted a picture of him on social media holding a semiautomatic weapon to appeal to gun groups."

6. "Active in the Milwaukee chapter of the Federalist Society, the conservative legal organization."

7. "He also briefly advised the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, the conservative law firm and think tank that frequently appears before the Supreme Court."

8. He's a wacky dominionist (seek to institute a nation governed by Christians). "Kelly graduated from Regent University, which was originally called Christian Broadcasting Network University when it was founded by televangelist Pat Robertson. Kelly said his own Christian faith is part of what drew him to the school."

9. He headquartered his campaign at the office of Wisconsin Republican Party, paying the party roughly $65,000 this year to cover rent, mailings and staff wages.

10. He authored a blog post where he criticized the U.S. Supreme Court's decision that legalized gay marriage as judicial overreach.
Note: Republicans are about to use COVID-19's poll location closings in Milwaukee and Madison as a convenient tool to suppress votes for the Supreme Court race. With logic like this...

And the "corrupted by money" majority of conservative activist Justices sure don't seem nonpartisan to me...this is considered normal in Wisconsin now.
