Republicans propose change to ObamaCare that will drop insurance for 1.5 million employees, saving Business money, and expand Deficit $74 billion over 10 years. That's "Fiscal Conservatism."

You heard the whining. Republicans complained that many Americans lost their old insurance plans to ObamaCare.

And yet those same Republicans want to take health care away from 1.5 million hard working people. By changing the Affordable Care Act for the worse, they would allow businesses to drop their employee insurance. More on that below. And the public isn't outraged or clamoring to stop them?

Am I pissed? You bet, and here's why: If the Affordable Care Act was the disaster the GOP claimed it was, then why are they rewriting it to intentionally making it worse, angering the public even more? From MotherJones:
Republicans plan to vote on a bill that would gut Obamacare—and could deprive up to 1.5 million Americans of their employer-sponsored health insurance. The law defines employees who work 30 or more hours per week as full time. The legislation ... would change the definition of full time to 40 hours per week for purposes of the law. Companies that don't want to provide health insurance for their employees can avoid doing so by cutting workers' hours.

"I call this the 'send people home a half hour early on Friday and deny them health insurance' bill," says Tim Jost, a health care law scholar at the Washington and Lee University School of Law who has consulted with the Obama administration on implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

Cutting time at work by a half hour, even 15 minutes, is no joke. But can Republicans still blame ObamaCare if something they changed in the law takes health care away from 1 and half million people? Of course, because Obama would have signed it into law as part of an important budget bill.
"Raising the threshold to 40 hours would place more than five times as many workers at risk of having their hours reduced," Paul van de Water, a senior fellow at the left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, wrote in 2013.
And the cost of this Republicans ObamaCare add-on?
"...increasing the federal deficit by $73.7 billion over 10 years, according to the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation."
Incredibly, Democrats continue to waffle on the basic fundamental human right to health care, and Republicans are loving it. For that reason, the GOP can make the case health care is a consumer product that people can "shop" for. Cancer? Shop, shop, shop.

Insurers, hospitals, doctors, drug and device makers will all share in the profits of the "health care" buying public. Can't afford it? Ask your neighbor to donate a few hundred dollars for a little help. Maybe that church down the street. Schools are now requiring their students to provide some kind of social service...maybe a car wash or bake sale.

  1. For the record: When Obama took office on Jan. 20, 2009, the debt was $10,626,877,048,913.08. Since then, it has increased $7,514,567,086,650.22

Additionally, a standard work week is 40 hours, not 30. Are you suggesting that now, after 30 hours, employees should also get overtime?

    1. 1. Obanacare has reduced the deficit and extended the life of Medicare because of lower growth in health care costs. You should be loving it.

      2. You can't really see how employers would abuse workers with this change? You need to not speak till you figure out why this is a bad deal for pretty much everyone outside of the scumbag business owner who would try to pull such a thing.

  2. Clinton left Bush nearly no continuing deficit. Bush left Obama around $1.2 trillion in yearly obligations (including for the first time the two wars). So it's hard to wipe out monthly and yearly deficits just like that after a Great Recession. Agreed?

Spending is greatly down now anyway.

The work week was also mentioned in the article but I didn't blog it. 30 hours made it almost impossible for employers to game the system without cutting hours worked by over 25%.

It only applies to health benefits, not overtime or anything else. At 40 hours, like I said, employers can reduce someones hours by 15 minutes a week if they wanted and avoid paying. That pushes employees into the individual market, costing them much more of their wages and dampening consumer spending etc.

    Hope that helps.

Still playing the Bush Blamegame eh? HA! If spending is so "down" why did U.S. Treasury debt increase almost 800 billion last year alone? Yeah it's hard to "wipe out" deficits when you're not even trying.

Not only does the debt continue to skyrocket but the Federal Reserve's Balance sheet continues to grow larger even when the money supply is contracting.

Maybe you need more of that common core 2+2 = 5 math whiz.

And employers aren't trying to "game the system." They're trying to run a business and turn a profit in a economic, political, and regulatory nightmare created by progressive idiots like you!

  4. Ok, I got it: Obama is NOT a big spender and Obamacare is a huge success.

  5. Jake,

    1. Yes I love watching my healthcare premiums rise by 68%. Please explain in detail how obamacare has reduced the deficit. I would love to hear this one. You guys better stop focusing on the hocus pocus and start focusing on the debt which is beyond the ability to service at this point.

    2. How would employers "abuse" workers exactly? They can always quit and find a new job where they are of productive use to society. Assuming they bothered to develop any productive skills which is unlikely.

  6. Why should employees leave a good paying or stable job because their abusive employer took away their health care benefits? That's sounds doable to you? Funny, you didn't say the same thing about union shops, where employees could also decide to leave if they didn't like it. Instead, unions had to go, not employees...weird huh?

We're not people, we're workers, a "productive use to society." You're really a horrible person. "...trying to run a business and turn a profit" is more important than people? Got it.

How has ObamaCare saved money? It was always projected to save money, and is, but you were too ideologically driven to read those stories on the run up to the ACA. Here's a list of linked documented stories that I know you won't care about in the least. Check out the Ryan plan the mirrors ObamaCare:

  7. I'm a horrible person. That is a very well thought out argument. I'm simply stating the fact that people do not start businesses for the sake of hiring employees. They do it to make money. You can leave out the "abusive" nonsensical part. Employers are under no obligation to provide healthcare to their employees except under the use of government force. I have helped many people get back on their feet and written them checks for their services. Sometimes it was worth it and sometimes it wasn't. But health insurance should not be required of employers just as retirement funds should not. People have to be somewhat self responsible for themselves. They are paying their employees for a service. Not to take care of them from cradle to grave.

Just because one is a "worker" does not automatically equate to being a "productive use to society." I've seen people who actually get their hands dirty and get something done like myself, and I have seen others stand around and complain and do nothing.

Yeah since I waste enough of my valuable time already trying to teach you something about how the real world works, I won't bother going through all the links you mindlessly posted and I've probably seen already and laughed at.

Did you ever notice CBO projections always get revised and never turn out the way they were originally planned? hmmm wonder why.

  8. Really? "That is a very well thought out argument."

After everything and all the time I spent giving you the facts, that's it?

I cannot waste time on people like you, and nobody else should either. This kind of response is typical of most "anonymous" conservative sky-is-falling trolls.

    Please find another hobby.

  9. One more thing; I have worked since I was 13, paperboy, factory worker, laying natural gas pipe, auto shop, restaurants, real estate and radio music and talk. Who the fuck are you to tell me or anyone else whether their work is worth it, or that companies have no social responsibility. You must be young, business wasn't always like this.

You're an obnoxious and clueless know it all. Use your name next time and stand up for your values, instead of hiding.

  10. Jake, bother with what exactly? You didn't refute anything I said. I'm not the one who has trust in this "government" (corporation). What is mediocrity to you? Wasting time on silly progressive liberal blogs trying to educate them? I agree.

John, giving me facts? Are you looking for some ego driven recognition? Is that why you do this? Don't waste time on me please! Thats the last thing I would want. Focus your energy on anything that empowers you.

Here are 10 ways to empower yourself as you always want solutions. Master them all. Then get back to me.

I know who I am. Do you know who you are? That's all that matters. No, it didn't used to be like this. But are you sure you fully understand why?

You don't need to know who I am. You only need to understand yourself.

  11. No offense but it sounds like you can't keep a job.
