State Republicans now Controlled by Tea Party Opponents of Common Core.

Remember how Republicans complained how the Democratically controlled Capitol, or “Madison,” told everybody what to do? Madison knew better, snark-snark.

Well it looks like “Madison,” under Republican control, is even worse.

Tea Party Opponents of Common Core Rule Republicans: After only a few tea party groups demanded the rejection Common Core outright, guess what, that’s what Republicans decided to do. That despite nearly all the states school districts support and have invested in Common Core.

Goodbye local control, see ya later State Superintendent of Public Instruction (a constitutional problem).

Apparently politicians know more about education than the National Governor’s Association collaboration with educators. Heck, locally elected school board members now know more than most teachers in the classroom.

WKOW: The Assembly Select Committee For Review of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) approved nine recommendations that modify or set up future restrictions for state academic standards.

The Committee's two Democratic members (voted against the recommendations).

And while the recommendations do not specifically call for the Common Core Standards to be eliminated, Committee Chair Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac) made it clear that is ultimately what he wants to see develop … One recommendation specifically calls for new standards to be developed and implemented by the 2015-16 school year.  The Senate committee also recommended a two-year delay of the CCSS-related Smarter Balance Assessment tests that are scheduled to begin in the 2014-15 school year.
That’s right, Republicans didn’t even want to know how Common Core was working, because to them it’s already gone.
A spokesperson for the Department of Public Instruction reiterated that the agency has no plans to delay any portion of the CCSS, because funding for it was already approved as part of the 2013-15 state budget.
But parents know more don’t they? And what the heck, our standards should be as unique as our brats. Besides, the government is trying to invade our kid’s privacy with scary science, like “biometric data.”
Critics have complained they were developed without public input and don't allow states enough ability to make them unique. But Democratic Rep. Sondy Pope says many of the concerns raised are unrealistic. She says, "I just feel like through this process I should be watching for some boogeyman or black helicopter that may be hovering around."
Pope wasn't kidding either:
Republicans say they are concerned about protecting student privacy and preventing the state from taking biometric data from them like fingerprints and retinal scans.
Republicans want the legislature to control every aspect of education. It's the only way to protect against another "Common Core" from happen again. This is really BIG GOVERNMENT CONSERVATISM.

You be the judge. Here's a recent discussion detailing the evils of Common Core, from WKOW's Capitol City Sunday:

  1. Is it just me or do the Teabaggers who are constantly attacking public education come off as a little stupid? Did they have a hard time in school, is this the problem? How many States have a college dropout as Governor? Tearing things down is easy and the Teabaggers have a talent for it, but to build things, to solve actual problems requires intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills. In both those categories they draw a blank.
