The Scott Walker Hail Mary tax cut reelection payoff. Desperate!!!

None of the local news coverage even noticed how blatantly obvious this campaign ploy was, especially after seeing how little property taxpayers will get in the end- $33!!!
Desperate voter payoff?
WKOW: Governor Scott Walker announced Thursday afternoon he is calling a special session for this fall, where Republicans will introduce a bill he says will provide $100 million in property tax relief … the proposal would save $13 this year, and $20 in 2014. Walker says the property tax cut is being funded from a $700 million state surplus. "Given that there's so much variability in local property taxes anyway, for many people it won't be noticed," said Todd Berry, president of the nonpartisan Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance.
Sen. Albert Darling couldn't stress enough that the minor amount in the tax cut is nothing compared to the symbolic nature of their ability to balance budgets and cut taxes. They live and breath this, and will not hesitate to pass anything to look good. It's all a show. This insulting bribe, just $33, is just more fodder for the Democratic challenger for governor:

REALLY BAD TIMING: I think it's beyond irresponsible to propose a tax cut based on mere projections during a total government shutdown, effecting consumer spending and businesses here and around the nation. Just amazing and totally Republican. They do know we're still part of the union?

    1. And by another Dubya in DC in the early 2000s. By the way, it looks like there won't be a dime of this money that'll go to alleviate overcrowded classrooms- it's all to reduce the property tax amount for schools....and those taxes WILL STILL GO UP.

Symbolic move that does nothing but increase the structural deficit even more for the next Guv to fix. Very Bush-like

  2. Right on all accounts. This is an attempt to drag Democrats down the irresponsibility hole with them if they sign on to the cut, claiming bipartisanship, or blame Democrats as taxers if they don't go along with it.

  3. $700M surplus? So that's $700M Scotty didn't have to borrow after all? You have to admit, this guy really knows his way around a budget, in an Enron kind of way.
