When an increase in School Funding is really a massive defunding of half the school Districts.

Voters were sold another phony bill of goods. Did they really increase school funding? A trick question:

Wheeler Report: Senate Democratic Leader Chris Larson: "Just two days after the budget was signed, the supposed increase for Wisconsin’s neighborhood public schools was disproven by the facts. The Department of Public Instruction released new information showing that over half of Wisconsin’s 424 public school districts would again receive less state funding under Senate GOP leadership.

Think what it would be like without the increase in school funding.

jsonline: Despite a 1.1% increase in the total amount of general aid going to state school districts in 2013-'14, more than half of Wisconsin's 424 districts will receive less aid next year than the past school year, according to preliminary state estimates released Monday by the Department of Public Instruction. DPI spokesman John Johnson said the 1.1% increase is especially concerning because it does not keep pace with inflation. "When (increases) don't keep pace with inflation, it leads to cuts in some districts," Johnson said.

While 229 of 424 districts will receive less money, 193, or 45%, will receive more aid. Racine School District, for example, will receive an additional $11.3 million next year, bringing the district's total to $133,629,360.

Madison was far from the only place to take a school aid hit. Despite a 1.11% increase in overall state aid, 54% of the state's districts will lose money compared to last year, and approximately a fifth will lose 10% or more in state aid vs. what they got last year. Here are some of the other larger districts looking at big property tax increases for next year.
