Wetlands located near Lambeau Field gets a store, Cabela’s! Another Walker Victory.

One of the first acts of environmental irresponsibility by the Walker administration came when they made attempts to attract a retailer to build on a small section of wetlands near Lambeau Field. Well guess what, they finally found a buyer. Cabela’s decided it would build on, or right next to, a wetland area. Another retailer, Bass Pro Shops instead said NO. See my post here.

Scott Walker said Friday he wants the Legislature to quickly pass a bill that would allow a developer to build on a wetland near Lambeau Field … Walker's comments came just after Bass Pro Shops issued a statement saying the company would not build on a wetland. Company spokesman Larry Whiteley said "We were unaware of any wetlands issues and have not and will not be in favor of doing anything to harm wetlands wherever they might be."Whiteley declined to say whether the company no longer had an interest in Green Bay, saying only "we don't build on wetlands."

Never one to give up, Walker continued to look for someone a little less responsible.

jsonline: Outdoor retailer Cabela's announced on Friday that it would build a 100,000-square-foot store in Ashwaubenon near Lambeau Field. The Green Bay Packers had been courting Cabela's, and earlier, rival Bass Pro Shops, to develop a store. The site is on 21 acres at Highway 41 and Lombardi Ave.. Cabela's will employ 175 employees, including full-time, part-time and seasonal workers.

There’s hope the wetlands won’t be impacted:

On Friday, Rep. Brett Hulsey (D-Madison) said that given the size of the footprint of the Cabela's store, the company should be able to build it without disturbing the wetlands. About 12 acres of the site is wetlands.
