State Sen. Sheila Harsdorf has never been a deep thinker, and her recent Patch editorial proves that, and more. In fact, Harsdorf admits she and the Republican administrations dictatorial revamping of government may come to a stop because of the recall elections.
Yes Sheila, that’s the point.
First up, Harsdorf's blissfully clueless admission Republicans will do anything to maintain power, even amend the state constitution. To make it harder for citizens to redress their government, Harsdorf refers to protesting Wisconsinites as “special interests and activists,” a permanent vilification that would make it impossible to protest bad government in the future. It's possible. It doesn’t occur to Harsdorf that the total conservative makeover of government started all this. Two thirds of the state, voters and nonvoters alike, aren’t hard right wingers like they are:
The never-ending election cycle we find ourselves in has been driven by special interests and activists that insist on election after election until their desired result is obtained. In response to the concerns that the recall process is being abused for political agendas (is that ironic or not?), legislation has been drafted … AJR 63 … allow for a recall if an elected official has been charged with a serious crime or if probable cause is found that they violated the state code of ethics.
With jaw dropping stupidity, Harsdorf reaffirms the reason why we’re having the recalls in the first place:
The ongoing use of recalls to attempt to change the outcome of the most recent general election will not only be costly to taxpayers, but it will discourage elected officials from making the tough decisions that are inherent with public service.
Why would the recalls “discourage” Republicans from "making those tough decisions," unless...they know they’re not actually carrying out the will of the people?
