Far Right Fringe Groups write Republican Legislation for Wisconsin, like the Woman's Protection Act."

When I posted this story a while back, I didn't see it from this new and interesting self-evident position. NARAL, Pro-choice Wisconsin pointed out what is now so painfully obvious about the inappropriately named “Woman’s Protection Act.” The far right fringe group Wisconsin Right to Life wrote the bill.

The Republicans big government intrusion into medical decision making never somehow conflicts with their calls to get government out of health care.  Odd isn't it?
In a televised interview aired on Madison CBS affiliate WISC last week1, Senator Mary Lazich claimed the proposed bill is not yet written saying, “We are working on the bill.” Meanwhile, Wisconsin Right to Life has made repeated claims that the bill is ready for introduction and includes provisions to greatly restrict abortion access, “While claiming the so-called “Woman’s Protection Act” is about safety, Senator Lazich failed to name a specific provision of the bill that would promote safety for Wisconsin women,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin Executive Director Lisa Subeck.

“In fact, she claimed the bill is still being written, yet Wisconsin Right to Life sent the letter obtained by WISC news to its supporters claiming the bill is ready and even published a full legislative analysis on its website2.”

“When the supposed author of a piece of legislation cannot tell you what is in the bill but a special interest group can provide a full legislative analysis, it makes you wonder exactly who is writing our laws. It seems that Senator Lazich and Representative Litjens are leaving it up to Wisconsin Right to Life to determine what is best for Wisconsin women,” continued Subeck.

Good point. Watch that sick smile stretch across Lazich’s face over the thought of taking control of a women’s health care decisions. So these medical procedures haven't been safe these many years?

  1. These right-to-life, pro-war, pro-gun, anti-choice hypocrits don't understand that abortions are a safe medical proceedure so that writing legislation to 'protect' the woman is nothing more than another approach to dictating what's right in another person's personal life. It's well-understood (by people with sense) that abortion isn't an impulse purchase nor is it used as a method of birth control. So, if you remove those two uncommon scenarios, what you have left is a woman who must abort to save herself and/or in the best interest of those she loves, including the embryo. Very few people are comfortable being in the situation where they have to make the choice, but there's some comfort in knowing that it can be handled in a professional and medically safe environment. For those who would NEVER consider abortion, under any circumstance, should keep out of other people's personal medical decisions. Until you walk in the shoes of another, don't pretend to understand. You can't. I've been there and I understand it perfectly. I would not be alive today had I been forced to provide prenatal care and give birth to an infant spawned through sexual assault.
