Republicans Refuse to include tax increase on wealthy, walk away from talks, demand just the opposite of public opinion.

Half of the projected deficits in the future are due to permanently extending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. Repeal is a no brainer if you're serious about cutting deficits.

But letting them expire, even creating a few new tax brackets for the outrageously rich, is not what Republicans are pushing. In fact, what they want is just the opposite of what the American people want.
Fox News (?): Republicans want to extract major budget cuts before accepting a debt ceiling increase, but do not want tax hikes included as part of the equation. In a joint statement from Kyl and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the senators claimed the White House and Democrats "are insisting on job-killing tax hikes and new spending," claiming such a plan would fail in Congress. Republicans specifically are concerned about a push to let the Bush-era tax cuts expire for top earners.
In a previous post I put together a few charts from a recent poll that asked American's what they would do to balance the budget. They would increase taxes for one. The Republicans aren't even close.
