Even beyond what the title suggests, the GOP plans to make everyone buy their own more expensive individual policies, and that means Americans will have a lot less discretionary money to buy things. And that would decrease demand and slow the growth of the economy. A job killer. Now, more bad news is on the way for Republicans, news they will ignore and pretend is ridiculous.
Madison Newspapers: Yet another report is out about health care reform. This one, released today by the pro-reform group WISPIRG, warns repealing the law would lead to more health costs for Wisconsin families and small businesses and less coverage … the report uses a lot of information from independent organizations and is worth a read if you're trying to get a handle on the debate.
Among its conclusions:
*Repealing the law, and the system of state health insurance exchanges it calls for, could drive premiums in the individual insurance market up by 20 percent.
*Nearly a quarter of Wisconsin's citizens have pre-existing conditions ranging from asthma to cancer, and without the protections provided by the law they would once again be vulnerable to insurance discrimination---denials and rate hikes--- because of their past history.
*Wisconsin women would once again have to pay higher rates for the same coverage as men if the law is repealed.
*Repeal could pull $4.3 billion in federal Medicaid dollars out of the state economy, jeopardizing the state's 81 community health centers.
*Without the law employer health costs will continue to spiral out of control leading to more than 7,000 fewer new jobs a year.
