Opposition to Mosque at Ground Zero a Convenient Excuse for Shredding First Amendment.

According to the Daily News:

“…without the civilizing dictates of their superiors in government, ordinary Americans are lost to reason and decency. They are the kind of people who - as a recent presidential candidate put it - cling to their guns and their religion … In the plan for an Islamic center and mosque to be built near Ground Zero, the full force of politically correct piety is on display along with the usual assault on all dissenters. The project has aroused intense opposition from New Yorkers and Americans across the country.”
There you have it, on full display, the public shredding of the First Amendment by paranoid conservatives. Religious freedom could not have meant being insensitive to the whims of fearful Christians.
In the plan for an Islamic center and mosque to be built near Ground Zero, the full force of politically correct piety is on display along with the usual assault on all dissenters.
So now the Christian right believes the First Amendment is “politically correct piety?”
But the argument that it’s next to Ground Zero, two blocks away, is just an excuse and a veil for religious intolerance.

Star Telegram: The controversy over a proposed mosque and community center near the site of the fallen World Trade Center towers in New York City has evolved into a textbook demonstration of intolerance, exhibitions of false patriotism and political demagoguery.
So what would be offered as an excuse for opposing a mosque in Temecula California? You won't believe the bizarre intolerant comments by these "freedom" loving Americans.

Press-Enterprise: A plan to build a mosque in Temecula has divided the southwest Riverside County city where conservative values and freedom of religion are both cherished. Vocal opponents of the 25,000-square-foot mosque proposed for 4 acres in the city's northeastern corner describe Islam not as a religion, but as a political movement bent on taking over the world and squelching freedom in favor of strict religious law.

Temecula, a city of 105,000 with many residents previously from conservative havens in Orange and San Diego counties, is home to a variety of churches, including an independent Baptist congregation whose minister doesn't want the mosque as a next-door neighbor.

So what would offered as an excuse for opposing a mosque in Murfreesboro Tennessee?

JacksonSun: At the June 17 meeting of the Rutherford County Commission in Murfreesboro, several hundred people gathered to oppose the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro's plan to build a new mosque complex in Murfreesboro. Most of the opponents laced their comments with references to Christianity, and though he said that questioning the complex was not religious intolerance, the senior minister of First United Methodist Church said he shared the apprehension of a great number of people, over "a massive Islamic Center being located" in Murfreesboro.
So where are the "constitutional conservatives" when you need 'em?
