Republican State Rep. Jim Ott, former WTMJ weather guy, says, "Should (we) pass job killing legislation to make it colder?"

Former WTMJ TV meteorologist and now State Representative Jim Ott not only thinks energy independence is a jobs killer, but point blank states:

"If you're fighting climate change, and fighting specifically global warming … then I believe what you're trying to do is make it colder. We're sitting here in one of the coldest winters in northern hemisphere in the last 25 years, maybe the coldest, and Wisconsin is going to pass, or should pass a job killing piece of legislation to make it colder? That doesn't make any sense."

Ott appears to be against the implementations of global warming solutions as well.

When one caller to the Idea's Network show pointed out how much money we're sending out of state to purchase energy, instead of producing it ourselves, Ott heads right down the rabbit hole with the most outlandish comparison between coal and buying restaurant produce. I'm not kidding.

Ott: "Let's start then, making a law that requires 50 percent of all of the produce that's sold in restaurants in the winter time would have to be grown here in Wisconsin…"

Ott also ignores recent utility rate increases that could easily be thought of as "job killers." After all, utility companies raised rates because lost revenues during a recession; people used less energy and manufacturers closed down, cutting in to big energies profit margins. Instead of biting the bullet, utilities killed jobs by increasing rates; We Energies' rates would rise by 4.9%, down from an increase of 7.4% submitted by the utility.

Background:
Job killers! Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle endorsed a green energy bill for Wisconsin recently, the Clean Energy Jobs Act, that attempts to make the state a supplier of green technologies and a manufacturer of our own energy. Job killers! The Jobs Act also helps companies switch over to cleaner and cheaper sources of producing their own energy. Job killers! Job killers! Job killers!

The only thing that doesn't kill jobs are Republican policies that caused the Great Recession and did away with over 3 million jobs…I mean policies that cut corporate taxes and turned politicians into corporate lobbyists who repeat over and over, "job killers."
