New Nick Name Fits: Rep. Paul “lyin’” Ryan on Oil Price BS

After watching one of the most embarrassing displays of ignorance, Wisconsin Rep. Paul “Lyin” Ryan should try reading up on the subject of oil pricing. Or, as they say in his part of the alternative reality we know as conservative world, a little “book learnin’.” Let’s set the premise first, from the CBC:

Buying was limited as the U.S. dollar edged higher against the euro and pound. The strengthening U.S. currency, as well as signs that demand growth is moderating in key energy-consuming countries around the world, has sapped the momentum from this year's surge in energy prices.
In this appearance by Rep. Ryan’s on Upfront with Mike Gousha, lyin’ Ryan blatantly replaces facts with absolute fiction.

Here are a few incredible lies unapologetically bloviated by lyin’ Ryan. My answer is in ( ) and in bold.

Lyin’ Ryan: This is a crisis right now! (Who waited till it was a crisis? Republicans. Who voted to give more pristine public land to BIG OIL over the past 30 years? Republicans. Who stopped them in the Senate. Democrats.)

Lyin’ Ryan:Turned off C-Span. They didn’t even offer us the courtesy of being able to make the points we wanted to make…! (Like C-Span would have changed their scheduel for political posturing. Ryan’s playing the poor conservative victim again)

Lyin’ Ryan: “We can Make ourselves oil independent. Bring dow the price of gas by increasing the supply. (Important to note, lyin’ Ryan stress’s through out the interview, that we will be oil independent. A claim refuted by our own government and economists. T. Boone Pickens even says it’s not possible. It’s galling BS. The fact is, we will not bring down the price anytime soon, realisticly 20-30 years IF that)

Host Mike Gousha: “T. Boone Pickens the man who made billions on oil … but he’s saying we can’t drill ourselves out of this crisis.”
Lyin’ Ryan: “We’re not saying that either…! (Again, he claims through out we will be oil independent. So what is it Paul? A lie.)

Lyin’ Ryan: “76% of all this oil under ground has been declared off limits by Congress. Of all the land’s that are open, you have all these lawsuits by environmental groups against the oil companies from going after the drilling. So WE’RE SAYING, CLEAR THE LAWSUITS, AND LET THEM DRILL WHERE THE OIL IS. (The land was declared off limits to protect our national treasures and environment. Lyin’ Ryan would remove the rights of U.S. citizens to stop the exploitation of government lands. Lyin’ Ryan’s is saying, screw the people, big oil wants some land.)

Lyin’ Ryan: “Get our selves off of foreign oil … in the meantime, get it from our country and lower the price. (The oil we drill will go on the world market, not straight to your neighborhood gas station. Is Lyin’ Ryan an idiot, or does he think we are?)

On the video, Democrat Rep. Gwen Moore fails to drive home the over-riding issue of the immediate impact of drilling now. Simple question Rep. Moore, “will drilling lower the price now or nearly 20 years out?” Ryan loses.

I don’t get into doing this nickname thing very often, but Lyin’ Ryan should be ashamed, and replaced for treating his constituents like children and not giving them the facts.
