Awhile back I wrote a piece about President Bush's use of the words "magic wand" to describe our uncontroled rising gas price problem. I wrote it as a startled citizens, seeking comfort and confidence in the words of the worlds most powerful leader. Magic wand?

Here are a few frightening observations and quotes from the New York Times story, 'Bush Says Pain from Economy Defies Easy Fix.' '
President Bush delivered an unusually dark assessment of the economy, saying the nation was in ‘very difficult times, very difficult…There are no quick fixes, Mr. Bush said, to ease the pain Americans feel.” “If there was a magic wand to wave, I’d be waving it, of course,” Mr. Bush said, referring specifically to gasoline prices, which have climbed $1.40 a gallon in 18 months. “But there is no magic wand to wave right now. It took us a while to get to this fix.”
Again, the President you would love to have a beer with said, 'It took us a while to get to this fix.' I’m left breathless. And when a President includes in a statement meant to calm the rest of the world, the words “magic wand,” god help us.
Here's what Bush said today, "It took us awhile to get into this problem...I issued this BRILLIANT statement 'if I had a magic wand; but the president doesn't have a magic wand. You just can't say-LOW GAS."
Again he'd treats us like 3 year olds, trying to convince us that he just doesn't have that magic wand, leaving us with the hope that maybe someday, he'll get one.
What I found just as revealing in his press conference, and it seems no one else notice, was Bush coming clean on Cheney's energy plan for the nation. They both saw these high gas prices coming, and they planned to push for more drilling as the solution out of the crisis. Can anyone say, "shock doctrine?"
