The next chancellor of University of Wisconsin-Madison, Biddy Martin, “hadn't finished signing her contract before inflammatory e-mails about her began flying around the state Capitol.”
Intentionally vindictive, The Republican chairman of the Assembly Colleges and Universities Committee, Rep. Steve Nass, had his aide circulate commentary featured in the National Review about Chancellor Martin. What you are about to read should give you an idea of how brutal the war on intelligence in Wisconsin is progressing. I’m sure it’s not exclusively our problem.
"An obscure, self-indulged, theory-laden, post-modern scholar," read the National Review Online commentary. The message came on the heels of a press release Nass issued the day Martin was named…but asserting the people of Wisconsin "don 't want a university promoting the liberal indoctrination of young minds at the altar of political correctness. "

Mordecai Lee, professor of governmental affairs at UW-Milw. and a former Democratic state senator said, "To legislators, the university looks like Iraq. It 's (seen as) just a bottomless pit, devouring money. It's never satisfied. Never happy."
The percentage of the university 's budget from state funds has declined over the past 10 years -- even as actual dollar amounts have increased.
Christian Schneider, a fellow with Wisconsin Policy Research Institute, a conservative think tank, credits Former Chancellor John Wiley with…nurturing diverse free speech. He points to Wiley paying for extra security to bring conservative commentator David Horowitz to campus.
Horowitz by the way uses the sensationalism of “extra security” as a gimmick, to push his whiny and sick “conservatives are victims” agenda. It must be scary knowing how truly dangerous latte drinking intellectuals are when they’ve had too much book learning.
(According to Schneider), "it would…help if she makes an effort to highlight
conservative scholarly work on campus so there's not the impression that the UW
is just a breeding ground for liberals. "
“Breeding” ground for liberals? That’s a respectful assessment. As for “conservative scholarly work,” take a look at the results of their economic and foreign policy "work."
Republicans want…to make teaching -- rather than research -- the top priority on campus.
Most colleges would give anything to have both. Research brings in extra funding, and students move up into research jobs., thus retaining graduates. Don’t they know that?
