Disney proves trained workforce not the point. Businesses want H-1B visas and cheap imported labor, not job skills.

While republican politicians brag about training the unemployed and cutting off their food stamps and UC benefits, they're also cutting this well trained work force for cheap imported labor.

Would I kid you?

On the federal end of the GOP agenda is the ever present effort to import cheap labor, making some of this "job training" stuff worthless, by increasing the number of H-1B visas:
NY Times: About 250 Disney employees were told in late October that they would be laid off. Many of their jobs were transferred to immigrants on temporary visas for highly skilled technical workers, who were brought in by an outsourcing firm based in India. Over the next three months, some Disney employees were required to train their replacements to do the jobs they had lost.

“I just couldn’t believe they could fly people in to sit at our desks and take over our jobs exactly,” said one former worker, an American in his 40s who remains unemployed since his last day at Disney on Jan. 30. “It was so humiliating to train somebody else to take over your job. I still can’t grasp it.”
Here's where the story is wrong, treating this like a "new" problem. If you look under my blog tab "Video History: failed Republican Policy" you'll find archived videos from 2003-2005 examining the same issues. Here's just one example:

It's not just at Disney:
But the layoffs at Disney and at other companies, including the Southern California Edison power utility, are raising new questions about how businesses and outsourcing companies are using the temporary visas, known as H-1B, to place immigrants in technology jobs in the United States.

According to federal guidelines, the visas are intended for foreigners with advanced science or computer skills to fill discrete positions when American workers with those skills cannot be found. Their use, the guidelines say, should not “adversely affect the wages and working conditions” of Americans. Because of legal loopholes, however, in practice, companies do not have to recruit American workers first or guarantee that Americans will not be displaced.

  1. Dude wake up! You sound like a damn fool blaming just the republicans for this all the time.

“Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land, they own and control the corporations that've long since bought and paid for, the senate, the congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pocket, and they own all the big media companies so they control just about all of the news and the information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else. But I'll tell you what they don't want. They don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that. That doesn't help them.”

  2. True enough, there are some blue dog dems included in all of this. One conservative tweeter pointed out how Disney contributes to Democrats.

Which makes my other case; Dems do hold their party members feet to the fire, unlike republican voters who let Walker get away with everything. Disney is wrong on this. I like the references you included. Carlin was a profit and amazingly accurate.

  3. Perhaps in Wisconsin, but certainly not when it comes to anything outside of your state. When Bush was invading Iraq and Afghanistan, liberals were screaming. But when Obama does it, they are nowhere to be found and continue to kiss the ground he walks upon.

As far as Disney, there are only 6 major media companies which control all the news you get. The main stream media is becoming the dinosaur media while the alternative media (internet) is becoming the main stream media.

The problem will liberals is that they lie about everything and the idiots buy it up because they don't research much or think for themselves. The problem with conservatives is that they "believe" they need to go kill muslims before they come here.

The problem with most everybody is that they continue to be trapped in the false left/right paradigm and do no real thinking for themselves. They confuse "feeling" for "thinking." As Carlin said, you have to emotionally detach yourself from the outcome of all this.

Remember, the Tea Party started as a grassroots movement in protest to the bank bailouts kicked off by Rick Santelli's rant on CNBC until it was almost immediately co-opted by the Sarah Palins, Glen Becks, and Rick Santorums.

Don't expect the same people who caused this mess to be the ones to fix it. You cannot fix a problem using the same consciousness that created it. Everybody is looking for a savior. Bernie Sanders for instance. Everybody likes to blame somebody else but never themselves. The real problem with this country is the people. Ironically , they are also the only solution. If you want to change the world, you have to change yourself first.

  4. Of course I disagree with your loony tunes excuse liberals lie. That makes it very convenient to take a little jab at our lying conservative tea party crazies. Nice comparison but I'm not buying it.

You're whole idea is center on no solution at all, just empty hopelessness. I'm not buying that either. But thanks.

  5. So you are against increasing legal immigration via the H-1B visa program but you support the efforts to legalize those already here through illegal immigration? You don't think any of the illegals have supplanted existing workers at lower wages like the examples given in this article?

  6. You won't find solutions in this paradigm. You have to look at yourself. The government democrats/republicans certainly aren't going to solve any of your problems. It's not part of their plan.

People are going to be absolutely shocked when they see just how bad things really do get. And the main stream propaganda line will be "nobody saw it coming" when many of us did, all the while screaming for everybody to get prepared.

Here. You won't like this I'm sure. But take a few minutes to take this quiz.

    http://www.naturalnews.com/049838_Preparedness_pop_quiz_survival_social_chaos.html

You may get a low score and think it is hopeless, but you still have some time to prepare and improve your situation. The fact that you have children is all the more reason to do so. Everybody has free will and the power to change things. But all anyone can do is focus on the things that they can control themselves. The more you empower yourself, the more you can help others in a time of crisis. The politicians will end up doing whatever they want which is take us to war. All anyone can do is protect themselves and those around them.

All politicians lie. Psychopaths and sociopaths always gravitate towards positions of power. Police, judges, attorneys, bankers, politicians. That doesn't mean all attorneys are bad people. They just don't know. The one thing most tea party people do understand is that the debt is the problem. I would talk to your conservative friend and try to communicate with him on how to better position yourself and your family for what's coming. Hopefully it won't be so awful. But hope isn't a strategy. We all basically want the same things. We just disagree on how to get there.

  7. Talk to my conservative friend like he has a grasp of this or a solution? He's broke, a business owner on BadgerCare.

So debt is the problem, okay let's cut everybody off the safety nets and stop penalizing the wealth with taxes. Problem solved.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Actually your solution isn't viable I'm sorry to tell you. We are way past being able to fix this system. They cannot simply tax the wealthy to pay for this. I know you don't like hearing that but it's the truth. The titanic has already hit the iceberg and the wealthy elite have already taken almost all of the lifeboats. I know it makes you and me and everybody else angry but we have to get past that and focus on what works, not getting even.

The people who rely on government safety nets will no doubt have it the hardest. All the more reason to empower yourself and try to help others that way. Politicians can't solve this problem even if they wanted to.

Government encourages bad behavior. They want people addicted to the government programs because they will always argue for such programs. The more people that are reliant on government for their well being, the more that will get hurt. Same goes for the food supply, water supply, electricity, etc. This wasn't an accident. It was planned out decades ago.

Save yourself because nobody and I mean NOBODY is coming to save you!
